I'm looking at buying a 35mm film slr camera. The other half has an old Zenit but lately it has been giving him a lot of problems when it comes to printing out pictures.
Im looking at maybe buying him a new one second hand or brand new.Any ideas where bouts I can get one???Or else getting his own camera fixed.Any ideas where does fixing of old cameras - tired Conn's but they estimated it at 200e for fixing it

I've got a Pentax MZ-50 with a 35-80mm 4-5.6 lens. Bought it in 1999. The pentaprism is rather quite dusty but apart from that the camera works fine (i tried to use a compressed air blower to blow some dust from the mirror years ago and it managed to blow MORE dust into the pentaprism). I think I was quoted €80 to get it cleaned a few years ago but it doesn't affect the image quality so i never bothered. It comes with a soft case ( I think I know where it is) and I'll throw in a set of close up rings for it too.
I've also got a cheap and cheerful Tamron/Tokina 70-200 lens and a Pentax 17-28mm fisheye zoom lens (fisheye at 17mm obviously).
If your interested drop me a PM.
If you want cameras fixed go to the Camera Repair Centre in Portobello Harbour in Dublin 8. It's in the same block as DML there but a few doors down. Got an F70 fixed there before that I got from ebay. Someone must have poured coke where the bayonet fitting was and it was stiff as hell to mount a lens. worked perfectly and only cost €45 to fix I think?

conns don't do it in house, they'd probably send it up to portobello and add a bit of profit for themselves.

Ebay is great for old cameras, maybe you could get an old Zenit body to replace his troublesome one? Check it out. He'd probably want to stay with that system if he's got lots of lenses etc.

I love my Olympus film SLR that I picked up on ebay for around 1/2 what they go for in town.

I've been looking and there are loads on ebay - recently this went for just €100

If you're looking for a warranty, the Dublin Camera Exchange have been recommended to me.

on olympus would be a good purchase - best bet would probably be an OM2N.

if anyone has a nikon 35mm SLR, there's a 50mm f1.2 nikkor in the camera exchange at the moment.

I've got a Phenix DC303n I think it is9off the top of my head) and I love it. Love winding film on rather then the auto ones. I'd say you'd get one in camera exchange maybe. I got mine for like 50 quid, love it to bits

Ok done a bit of looking about and slipping lil questions to him about the lenses he has etc
I know he has some filters, flash, shuter release etc all very old!!He also has a 50mm and a 100 mm lens which are both pentax screw mount lenses.

If the Zenit camera you already have uses M42 screwmount lenses a Pentax Spotmatic would be a good choice as it has the M42 lens mount and will accept any lenses from the Zenit. Build quality of the spotmatics is excellent - far better than the Zenit. They can be obtained easily enough (secondhand) on Ebay, many also have working lightmeters despite their age.

Tnkerbell, I'd recommend the Olympus OM series. They are robust, durable, lightweight, well-liked cameras. Due to the move to digital, you can pick them up cheaply.

I have two of them (OM1N and OM20) and lenses including a shift lens for "correcting verticals in architectural shots etc. I'm not selling (as I wouldn't get what I want for them)

You have a Zenit. If you want to see what the OM series is like, you could do me a favour. I have a Kodak Aero-Ektar aerial lens with a fitting that I believe is a zenit fit, but I don't have a zenit to try it against.

I'm based in Dublin, and would be happy to let you have a look at the OM series, if you could help me identify the fit of the lens.

PM me if you think it would help.

    Thanks.
