I'm interested in signing up for a stand at next years peoples photography. I've tried emailing them for details but got no reply. Does anyone know how to get in contact with the organisers? Do any of those involved read this forum?

Is it already to late to get a slot that is not on the lonely South Side of the park since I presume people who were there this year will get first shout for the decent slots on the North and East sides?

it's probably a bit early yet, and a collection of Boards people got a load of places side by side this year. I'm sure we'll do it again for 2008

    :)

Eddie pops on here now and then as far as I know.

I'll start a thread closer to Christmas about getting names together for another group booking if you're interested.

That would be great, I'd certainly be interested, at least then I'd have someone to talk to :-)

Renewing this old thread but has anyone tried successfully to sign up for this? Is it still too early? I was told previously that spaces go quick early in the year so I emailed the address on the site a couple of times over the last 2 months and got no reply. Either the email is not active or my emails are getting swallowed in their spam filters.

I hate to be a pain but I'd love to give this a go this summer and would like to get a spot.

no.. but I did.. he needs the motivation on a Monday morning. Otherwise we wont see him till Wednesday teatime.

I'll sort something out at the end of the month, I reckon it's still a bit too early otherwise!

    Someone remind me though :D

earlier the better!!!! I applied quite earl last year and got number 3. Which is better than your location last year... don't wanna be stuck with the horses!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

yeah.. I'd personally rather be where myself an Fajitas were the first year than be sitting surrounded by the festering smell of horse for the entire weekend. Our location last time wasn't too bad. Suppose it depends on what the motivation is for the weekend.. enjoyment or volume of sales.

Personally I'm going for enjoyment and the experience. If anyone buys one of my photos I'll feel sorry for them :-)

do keep in mind though, even if your photos are the worst kind of tripe you could ever imagine, there will always be someone there exhibiting stuff that makes yours look like works of art.

I was going to try my best to try and do this years but now I'm not sure sure in relation to work I have thats suitable, not really in it for the sales its more about the experrience and getting myself to do this type of stuff.

    Sales can be later :)

Can I copyright the idea of selling cards? :o

I think no matter how early we applied last year, they surely couldn't put such a big block of people on the front row... Although, wasn't there a camera club there last time?

Still, our spot wasn't bad - but closer towards the east end of that side would be nice this year, *just* round the corner from the front.

I'm sure there were a two of camera clubs on the front, possibly even 3. I did think it seemed a little strange to have so much of the front taken by 3 bookings when individuals would have provided more variety.

Greeting cards yes, cards of all types most definitely not.. I'm going to try 15% harder this year to get my arse in gear and print up some postcards to sell over the weekend.

This is something I'd definately be interested in. What time of the year is it on? Just so I can start short listing some pictures,

did ye sell one off's last year or did ye have 10 prints of the same thing and how many pictures does one get to show-off whats the critirea so many questions is there a website ....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

August bank holiday.. All one off's. Your space is like 6ft x 9ft or around that so whatever amount of prints you can fit into that.

    www.peoples-photography.com I think

I'm a definite for it this year. Two things I learned from last year was, I had to many photos on display and cards sell :)

Wouldn't want to disappoint, now

Seriously have to be more organised about printing and mounting this year - every single time, I end up finishing things off at 3am the night before...

    Explain the Cards please?

Are they greeting cards, postcards or what?. How much do they sell for and are they expensive to produce?

    Thanks

    T.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

They're smaller prints, like postcards, but can easily be mounted & framed too.

You'll have to ask Elven about costs, but she developed a fantastic sales technique last year that the majority of the rest of us will find quite difficult to reproduce...

I made cards by mounting very small prints (3x2") onto blank cards from a craft shop.

And people bought them, before they looked at the cleavage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

That's why they ordered from the bottom of your stand first :p

Think I might do this this year. Do they only do it on the one weekend a year though??

Also, any advice from the "veterans", for any newbies who might be exibiting?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Do a search on it! Last years thread has plenty of advice!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,930 ✭✭✭✭challengemaster

hmm, might go for this.. maybe :D

Okay - don't ban me for this (since I'm talking about two mods here) but what is the situation with fajitas and elven? Are you guys a couple/very good friends who live together? Or does it just seem that way to my young naive mind?!?

Very off topic and of course no one has to answer - but just a question that's been bugging me for a few posts now.

I'm contemplating cards and *maybe* a couple of books this year. I just have to uhem sort out the books.

and jools, I'm pretty sure that some if not most of the people who bought your cards didn't notice the cleavage at all. What was your customer base? People who wrote cards, right? Not the kind of demographic that would be so easily swayed.

    LMAO!

Her hubby won't be happy when he reads that! 'Nuff said!!

I'd say very good friends. :)

I don't think Elven would live with me :D Not where I'm living at the moment anyways!!!

The cards are a great idea - Not everyone wants to be walking about a framed print, though I did like arriving with just 5 big prints last year. Might just do 2 big prints this year, and a few very small ones. Depends on what I have left over from my exhibitions aswell!!

Books might be interesting alright. Again, depends on other exhibs/business.

Thanks for the clarification - no offence meant to Julie's husband (please don't hunt me down with an axe!)

My imagination does tend to be over creative at times :)

I don't want to know about your creative imagination. ;)

I think you should copyright your selling technique ... worked a treat on the men ...

Maybe you could PM O'Donnell and ask him ... nothing like a big angy Hun Scotsman to get the blood flowing and stir the senses ...

The lesson I take from last year is less is more and try to have a theme ... I had far too many and too diverse a group of images to make a good display ... this year I'm going for a mix of A3 and A4 but using my Africa trip to supply the images ...

oh ... and count me in Fajitas!
