I did a few tests where I keep my horse. The indoor arena is so dark its not even funny now, anyway I tried the 1dmk3 in there with an 85mm f1.8 attached and AI Servo, set it for AV mode and f2.0 and the shutter speed was 1/250th @ ISO 6400. I have to shoot the Christmas show there next Friday 14th of December.

Just a straighten and High ISO noise reduction on in camera

Thats pretty impressive. Would be good to see it compared to another body tho to show how much the MkIII really stands out.

To be honest unless you underexpose a 40d by 1 stop on its high setting then you would get an idea. To me this is a saleable image where I normally would have taken a load of mush!! Its just for info for anybody thinking of moving up..

probably not totally relevant to this post, but here: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d3/iso-1.htm is a comparison between the Nikon D3 and the Canon 5d

looks like Nikon's got their noise right this time

I dont see why they compare the 5d to the D3 in the test, the d3 is a pro body and the 5d is more than 2 years old. Only thing this proves is that the d3 has caught up to Canon's 5d body.

Very impressive. ISO 6400 eh? I get nervous uprating to ISO 400 (and I have a 5D)!

The last two jobs I have done I have used all the way up to ISO 3200 with a 5d with no problems so this would be one of the reasons that I got the 1dmk3.

This was in a darkish room where it was just hard to get a good shutter speed

That's some impressive stuff. Oh how jealous I was when Al shot most of that wedding at 3200 and it looked the same as iso 400 on my 350d :(

The last show I did in that arena I used the 5d @ ISO H (3200) and shot everything in RAW and ran noise ninja on them all and it was a bit pushed but everybody was very happy with there pictures :) At the end of the day if it is sharp that is all you can want from a high iso shot.
