Ok so I've been a loyal MMDS customer for years and mostly would not have much to say on the subject of NTL and customer support etc, but...

Rang last Friday to order DVR. Said they could do Tuesday at 13:00. Took time off work, fully expecting no-one to arrive. At 12:55 fone rang , a guy from NTL to say he was a little late. Arrived 10 minutes later! Stood in the doorway looking at me. I say "So" and he said "What do you want", I said "Why whats wrong", he say "I dont know, you rang, so we are here", I said "Yes, to install my DVR.".

"What" he, "No you've got a problem", "No" , I said, "you have". "No" he said, "I got a spare one in the van, give us a minute".

10 minutes later new DVR installed. Works a dream. EGP smooth, what more can I say.

Can you record one channel while watching another?
(I'm assuming it has twin tuners).

Also, I heard the RF out is only passthru for regular terrestrial TV, is it
possible to have a different channel outputted on each scart.
(again assuming it has 2 tuners!!).

Yeah you can watch one while recording another. But you can't record two channels at once.

No RF out for the dvr and you can't output two different channels on the scarts

Ok smart ar$e Watty! We are all entitled to the odd typo:p

Deedsie: Yes you can get dvr in mmds area. Its fine, best thing ever from UPC so far.

Watty: Of course its got full EPG.

Gerryo: Yes you can record channel a and watch channel b.

Dingdong: You can record two channels at once, but you must be watching one of them.

The post was meant to be a reflection on the improvements in UPC customer service rather than the actual dvr.

Wouldn't call it much of an improvement... if he hadn't had a spare in the van you'd be complaining that you took a day off work for nothing.

Ok, I give up. Lets rename the thread/fourm/board to

Cable & MMDS & IPTV knockers or maybe begrudgers.ie

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all, UPC included, and their agents.;)

Thanks for the reply & apologies for hi-jacking a thread on customer service for tech reasons. I've been wondering for some time if the DVR box would replace 2 standard MMDS boxes. That would mean I would get the DVR for the same price as 2 std boxes & could get rid of 2 VCR's.

    That's a big space saver.:)

I'm assuming you can schedule 2 recordings in the scheduler & not that the second channel (the one you are watching) is just disk buffering live TV.

The loss of RF out is a pain, but I could use a modulator to send to other rooms.

Now back to the customer service bit - you were really lucky the guy had one in the van (unless he was just messin' with your head about the service call ). When you placed the order, was it as a replacement for your standard MMDS box, how did you explain you wanted to return the old one & install a DVR?

If I order one, I want to get it right, 'cos not having TV over xmas due to a misunderstanding by UPC is something I want to avoid.

Or else I'll end up with a DVR AND 2 std boxes, paying twice as much for the 6 months it takes to get it sorted out.

Seems like your order got translated into a service call, which turned out ok, but might not have...

dont understand why ye all are getting excited about dvr especially that you have to pay a monthly fee for it.i would much prefer that ntl some how became interactive gave us about a dozen new channells, including all the itvs channels.all people around here are doing is getting those dodgy receivers .So come on ntl give us the genuine subscribers to your digital services a nice xmas present............:rolleyes:
