Ryanair & Online Checkin

My wife (who's non-EU) and I recently flew to Cork by Ryanair, using their online check-in, which only accepts EU identity cards and passports. She used her Garda-issued identity card, which was actually accepted on the Dublin-Cork flight, but then refused on the Cork-Dublin flight! (After a phone call, they allowed her to board.)

Does anyone know if her ID was valid or not? If not then I presume that non-EU people, even those with residency status, aren't allowed to use online checkin?

If that's the case, even thought we booked our next flight stating we were going to use online checkin, is it OK to turn up and checkin at the desk, paying the extra then?

    P.

I'm pretty sure that she is not meant to be using online check-in if she doesn't have a EU passort (we don't have National ID cards here). I'd say you got lucky this time, but they could refuse her in future.

As for turning up, you probably could just turn uup at the desk and you might be charged for the priveledge :)

No prob, as long as turning up at the desk and paying is OK.

I'd still recommend that you confirm that with Ryanair directly :)

To qualify for Online Check-in each passenger must present either a valid passport or National Identity Card, issued by the government of an EU/ European Economic Area (EEA) country which matches the document details printed on their online boarding pass, at both airport security and the departure gate. (See paragraph headed "Documentation" for details of accepted EEA National Identity Cards).

When checking in online you would have clicked the I agree box for the above..
Any passenger failing to present their printed online boarding pass at airport security or at the departure gate will be required to check-in again at the airport desk and will be charged an airport check-in fee of £2/€3 per person (or local currency equivalent). This facility is available only if the applicable airport check-in desk is still open.

You can turn up at the airport without ur boarding card and pay the 3 euro charge..
