Was watching a bit of the build up to the hatton fight on saturday and someone from mayweathers camp(might of been floyd himself) saying hatton is only a good club boxer.....all heart and power and no skill or technique....and I was just wondering wether you guys think that powerful fighters like hatton, tyson, benn get overlooked and under-rated with there actual skills because people think that power is the only weapon in there arsenal?

I actually think hatton is technicaly a v.good boxer which is something that often gets over looked and could possibly be floyds downfall...under-rating this side of hattons game come saturday.

Just wondering what you guys think.Cheers

yeah ,....... i agree to a point , but mayweather is so predictable, he always goes the same route. he'll do the same trash talking approach with his next match-up, and the one after that and so on.

hatton a great technical boxer?.......... im not too sure.
his style is very one dimensional.... he moves in whilst letting a couple go , then attempts to clench.
this is a horrible style to watch sometimes, he holds way too much, and way more than most fighters.
ok, its a style that works for him so of course he's going to use it, but the media hype portrays a much different type of fighter, and i cant agree with that portrayal.

then , what a mix of styles it is going to be , cause floyd usually likes to keep out of range of clenching , and pops in quickly with technical punches and straight back out again , all in a split second motion.

the only chance of PBF mixing it up with Hatton , is if he fancies coping with hattons power levels, and floyd has taken the toe-to-toe approach with a number of boxers over the years.

I just hope this fight lives up to all it's being touted as,........
we may just see the fight of the night being on the undercard match-up !!

    A pessimist is never disappointed!

Yea good points made.......after all the hype that this bout has recieved I hope that it goes the full way.....and that its a great fight which would be good for the sport of boxing.

Just to point out Bernard mate, I never said hatton was a great technical boxer...I just think that that side of his game is slightly overlooked.
By no means is he on mayweathers level in terms of technical ability.....but mayweather wouldnt be on hattons level in terms of power so somethings got to give....just wonder what it will be?

43 fight's 31 by KO yeah, sure hatton hasn't an ounce of technical ability.

This talk of technical boxing and putting down so called "brawlers" is a farce.

Hatton _is_ technical you don't win 43 professional fights without a bit.

Running away isn't a technical ability, paying off judges isn't technical.

    Mayweather going down.....

Hi ntlbell........im not sure you or bernard are actually reading what I said......I think bernard thought I was saying ricky is a great technical boxer...which I wasnt I was pointing out that technicaly I do believe he is a very good boxer which to me is been overlooked especially by mayweather and his camp.....heck you defenitely dont have 41 wins without having an extremely high standard.

I think you also thought that I was sayin that ricky was very bad technicaly...which I wasnt.....as you have pointed out and I have said above his outstanding record speaks for its self.

So im not saying he is a "great" technical boxer nor am I saying he is crap.....but he is at a fantastically high standard...

About the running away bit......I dont think floyd has ever ran away......he scores and moves...scores and moves at unbelievable speed. After all isnt that what the art of boxing is about? Hit and dont get hit?

    Cheers:)

Well he ran from Oscar and only fought in brief spurts. Hardly legendary or exciting now.
At his best, Floyd does have wonderful skills, but he will have to be at his absolute
best IMO to beat Hatton and even that might not suffice.

Floyd this time will have to engage and will have to throw more punches and harder punches
than he did V Oscar. Hatton will not allow him any luxury messing on the ropes. Hatton will not allow one second to pass without making Floyd think and act....

The pace Ricky will be IMO a 'whole new ball game' for Floyd.
Whether Floyd can deal with it AND overcome and retaliate against it is
what everyone is waiting to find out.

I really think Floyd and his handlers know deep down that
this could be a truly truly tough and vicious encounter and
I also believe there are doubts in the PBF camp that they
can handle the ferocity and pace that Ricky can and will dish out

I have to agree mayweathers camp are trying to say hatton is this he's only a midget etc but they don't really believe that they know he's a good fighter.

Mayweather himself was saying hatton should be appreciative just being in the same ring as floyd,if he wasn't good enough he wouldn't be fighting him.

Their not underestimating hatton at all they know how good he is,to say he's just a brawler and a one dimensional fighter is wrong imo.I think thats what JMCD was trying to say he's not better than Mayweather technically but the gap between them isn't as wide as people make out ,alot of people underestimate hatton's boxing ability.

Uncle Roger was the one saying hatton is only a good clubfighter I hope for his sake and floyds he knows he's wrong I think he does..Mayweather made a big mistake using Baldomir and Ndou as sparring partners there nothing like hatton.

If they think they mimic hattons style they'll be sadly mistaken.

This is going to be very close, i feel it will go the distance and i just hope to god we do not see the usual dodgy american scoring. I am sure Hatton knows he needs to be convincing in each round to get a points victory.

I do not think Flyod is stupid enough to think Hatton is not a force to be reckoned with, he is just building up the hype.

Anyone betting? Great round odds on Hatton, going to go for round 3 and 11 for Hatton to win.

I agree with Bernard Hopkins post, if mayweather wants to go toe to toe with ricky, he is in for a surprise. Mayweather is totally underminding hatton, ive followed ricky since his early days & also mayweather. Mayweather is probably the best pound for pound boxer in the world, but he has never fought anyone like ricky, the pure raw talent & never give up attitude that ricky has will win him this fight. Mayweather likes to take it easy for the 1st 6 rounds & he puts the peddle to the metal for the last 6 rounds, ricky will come out with all guns blazing & blitz prettyboy in the first 6, heres a good bet for ye, hatton to beat mayweather & liverpool to beat reading on saturday, good odds so stick a few quid on it. There's only one ricky hatton.
