Hi just a quick queston regarding a printer I bought the other day.

It's a HP Deskjet all in one printer, photocopier etc. I've just gone to check my ink levels so have followed the usual steps and I know I'm in the right place. I've right clicked the printer and gone to printing preferences then gone to Printer Sevices where the levels should be. However I've gotten a message saying 'Unable to perform the operation' and nothing else. Does anyone know what's wrong? Haven't had it happen with any other printer I've used.

    Thanks in advance.

the ink level tool in hps is a loada sh1te anyway to be honest, its never accurate. is it the psc 1400 or something you have?

o/t: hp cartridges only come with 5ml of ink from hp, but are designed to hold around 12ml. get a cartridge refill company to do a double refill on your cartridges, and you don;t have to worry about ink levels for ages then! :)

    hello,
had the same problem with an hp Deskjet 6983. on hp support, they advise that if U have an open Firefox Browser window, close it and the problem gets solved. by me this didn't work. i tried to completely uninstall the Firefox Browser (after creating a restore point), and this worked. after aligning the cartridges (or whatever from services), i restored my computer again using the restore point i had created. it may be a silly solution to a silly problem :)

Just to note, when you initially buy a printer they only give you half full cartridges...The reason being that the companies don't really make money on the actual printers it's on the cartridges that they turn over the profit...

Your second cartridge should last twice as long as the one you received with the printer...

the main problem i and Xavi6 had, is that we get the message 'Unable to perform the operation' when trying to access the printer services. seems there is some sort of conflict between the printer software and the Firefox Browser. problem got solved when i temporary uninstalled Firefox, performed printer service, then installed Firefox again :(

Sounds like you need to install a plugin for your browser?. Do you have an updated version of Java Virtual Machine installed?. Might work, worth a try...

You could also try setting Internet Explorer as your default browser, but I have no idea on earth why someone would actually want to do that.....

I have the exact same problem as originally decribed - when I click printer services I get "unable to perform the operation " error message. I've tried the things that were suggested in this thread (uninstalling firefox, installing java) these havnt helped.

Please help me to fix this, I can't use my printer until I do because I think the nozzles need realigning etc.. and I believe this is the the program that does all that!
