I am going to chicago soon and hope to pick up a Canon Powershot G9. Can anyone recommend a good place to buy for cheap in the US? I am sure it'll be cheaper (have looked online), but if someone could recommend one of the big chains on the US that'd be great. bestbuy maybe?

If you are going to stay with a friend or you have a friend over there you can ship to then buy from www.bhphotovideo.com in New York ... have it shipped in advance ... and pick it up when you get there ... saving on state tax also ... as shipping is usually free

Bear in mind if you do this your friend will be required to verify their address by sending a utility bill or something similar ... B&H have a rather onerous verfication process for first time buyers ... but it works ...

The only place in Chicago that you should consider is Calumet in Cherry Avenue (see: www.calumetphoto.com). I purchased gear when I was there earlier this year and was very happy with their prices and their friendly customer service. Cherry Avenue is off the main drag a wee bit and while it is certainly walkable from Michigan Avenue you have to pass by some dodgy looking places to get there - get a cab is my advice.
