I am buying a new HD T.V. for a PS3 what should I be looking for. I dont want to spend any more than £500 so the Full HD 1080p is out the window unless someone knows any good deals. I would prefer 26" to 32". What makes a good t.v? Loads sound the same but big difference in Price.

    Thanks in adavance

You will do well to get any decent HDTV for €500. You need to spend a bit more, around €700 if you want quality TV in 26" to 32".

Harvey Norman usually have some good deals. Im sure u could pick up a nice 26" lcd for 500, 32" would be pushing it a bit. You could probably get a cheap one but the quality will be crap.

Just make sure you stay away from LG... fecking terrible tvs:mad: (Wish I hadn't been such a cheapskate)

Those samsumg tvs are good for HD stuff but poor enough for standard definition. So if its solely for the HD stuff then go ahead

True true LCD is pretty poor for SD thats why I'm getting a Plasma TV. Better scaling of SD TV is one of the benefits.

Yes the Bitches money. Thought '£' sign would have made that clear but thanks for the replies. I was looking at this t.v. anyone any thoughts on it. Someone said the contrast makes a big difference. This has 7000-1 or something like that means nothing to me is that what I should look for or is there other factors to consider.

I've a thing for Panasonic screens and this one looks to be a winner.

i got a 32'' Bush in Argos for €565 has 1080 too!!...... no regrets at all... only bad thing about it is theres crap sound of the speakers in it, but i have speakers for my P.C i can just plug into the headphone socket to change that :D

I ahve the Panny TX32LXD70 and it's great! I'll let you know how it looks with the PS3 after Christmas :D

It cost me £588 at Dixons, that was cheaper than Play and Amazon who were selling it for £600. It was recommended as best in class by the guys at AV forums and receives good reviews almost everywhere. Although it doesn't have a 7-day EPG, only 24 hour. Annoying.

On the HDTVORG review it says contrast ratio 700:1 on currys it says 7000:1 Which is right?

Panasonic website says 7000:1 I will believe them. This t.v. won best t.v. award for something starting to sway the way of the sonic

I got this one for my ps3 for 599 Euro

and I'm quite happy with it.

    Ordered this guy last night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,373 ✭✭✭ongarite

700:1, you won't get that contrast ratio unless youre getting a top dollar Plasma. Its an excellent screen and great for SD and the picky b*astards on AV forums agree.

    Edit:
Seeing as we are doing how big my d*ick contests here is the TV I'm getting

As I say I have no idea about contrast and all that ****e. I have three t.v.s in the house at the minute a sony 32" old style big back thing same in a panasonic in my room and a wee portable. Never looked into them buying just liked the look of them. Reason I am researching this a bit is I want a good enough thing for the PS3 or else I could use one of the other obviously they arent HD.

Panasonic again I think to add to the collection.

Hmm, according to play.com and John Lewis it's 8500:1 contrast ratio. I'll check the manual and TV tonight :) Also, AVForum folk spotted the Contrast thing too :D

There are plenty of threads about the Panasonic TV on AVForums if you do a search :)

Nice t.v. ongarite. I just dont use it enough to pay that sort of money for one. With a £2500 bike sitting in my kitchen I shouldnt be buying anything else I should be out on it but winter months and all that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 362 ✭✭MREGAN

What is better low or high for example is 700:1 better than 7000:1 as there are other t.v's for similar money with lower contrast like 1000:1 etc Now I am getting confused but will probably go for it anyway impulse buyer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,373 ✭✭✭ongarite

    http://panasonic.co.uk/lcd-tv/tx-26lmd70/index.htm

Its 7000:1 dynamic contrast, most of the new LCDs adjust the contrast automatically to give better colour range and fidelity.

What TV: Best Buy October 2007.

I have 2 TVs a 32 inch Samsung bought in April and the same one as r3nu4l here.

The Panasonic knocks socks of the Samsung for SD

it has only one hdmi slot (as far as i know anyway as i only need one, but i'm 99% sure it's only one)

the picture and sound are fine. when i got my ps3 first i didn't have the hdmi cable so was just using standad def and i was impressed with the ps3 but so much more impressed when i got the hdmi cable ;)
i've had no problems whatsoever with this tv. it has the slot at the back too to connect a laptop to it but i guess all lcds have that. i have my laptop connected to it and it's great!
    hope that helps.

A few Toshiba LCDs have been rated fairly high when it comes to SD... . The previous comment about Samsung and SD has some truth to it - happy with mine, but it makes SDTV unwatchable on some of the channels with a weaker signal.

Contrast ratio is not the be all and end all - manufacturers tend to be a little creative when quoting a contrast ratio.

I'm deffo buying a 32" lcd in the coming month.Seeing as the ps3 is one of the main reasons for buying, i've always been strangely attracted to bravia's.I've seen sd on some in shops and even that looked fantastic.I like the look of this

    http://www.directtvs.co.uk/Sony_KDL-32S3020_KDL32S3020U/version-1.asp

It comes in at around 760 incl delivery varying on exchange rate.As well as the tosh mentioned above i also like this ,if i decide to go for a slightly cheaper one

    http://www.pixmania.com/ie/uk/638414/art/lg/32lc41-lcd-television.html

The lg is about 630 incl delivery but its contrast is better than the tosh and it also has 2x hdmi.I think i'd trust toshiba more as a brand though.Anyone got any thoughts on these tvs

I'd be inclined to suggest you get the Toshiba. Sony LCDs can be hit and miss - some of their entry level models are not that great.

I have the following Panasonic myself and I'm delighted with it:
    http://www.peats.com/cgi-bin/catalog.cgi?view_product=1&id=21443&sid=10&cid=4117&scid=9924

I was expecting plenty of pixelation on standard def signals but the quality it's delivered is outstanding. It's by no means a chore to watch SD broadcasts on it at all.
I have the Playstation 3 hooked up to it and it looks fantastic. No regrets. It is a pricey 32" TV but the quality is there.

I saw it in an electronics shop and it looks really good but I dont want to take the step of buyin it without any advice.

Yes it accepts the 1080p signal, but downscales it to 720p. Still not a bad price.

    Go bigger :D

    Try this one http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=333306

Latest firmware updates play blurays @ 1080/24fps.

I'm looking at one of these, and they are available in Powercity for 1499 with free DVD recorder.

Wasn't there some Sony Centre deal going that if you bought a particular Sony HD TV that you could get a PS3 for free? maybe you had to buy a top of the line HD TV though that costs a fortune

    EDIT: Came across this:

    QQ on slightly related topic.
You want to get a telly for PS3 - but also for home entertainment (€2K budget) what do you get?
Is this a good deal http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=327043? For an extra 150 you get a surround system also (not sure which one)

Zonda, I bought the Sony KDL32D3000 from www.directtvs.co.uk this week. Should be hear on Thursday. It came in at €1,000 including shipping etc. €300 cheaper than the high street here.

Can't wait to get the PS3 going on it. Have to say, anyone looking at buying an LCD should seriously consider this site, You'll save money even on Komplett prices. I also bough the Samsung LE32R87BDX (seems to be one of the latest models, especially compared to the models being sold by Komplett) for the father in law.

They have some serious bargains on Sony, Smasung sets etc. Something to fit everyones budget I think!

The 100hz on my F86 isn't very good it's really great when it works but it works better on movies then games. But I hear Sony's 100hz works well so it should be good but don't get your hopes up

Yea listen to this. ORdered TV on Tuesday morning at 9am. Arrived Wednesday Afternoon at 3:25pm. Yes, next day! Coulnd't believe it.

TV was £649.97, Shipping was £39.95 and there was a surcharge of 0.95% on the total (when ordering on web, it's 1.5% if you ring them.

So total was £705.47 sterling. Converted at a rate of 69p (worst case) to the Euro it works out at a total for about €1022. Thats nearly €300 cheaper than the Sony Shops, Arnotts and Peats where I've seen that model Sony TV.

As for the TV, well it just blew me away. I fired up the PS3 and Xbox 360, and was blown away by the High Def pictures. Having been playing on a standard definition 32" CRT TV, the picture difference is amazing. I'd liken it to the difference between a VHS tape and a DVD.

The picture was crisp and sharp and the sound was fantastic. I haven't played too much with the settings on the TV yet, but was very, very impressed with my first look.

Guys seriously if your are using ur PS3 or (Xbox !! dont shoot me!!) on a standard def TV, you are missing out. High Def gaming is the way to go, your brain wont believe your eyes or ears!! :D
