dvd to vcr (dvd unable to fast forward)

    Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

    I recently bought a philips DVDR3510V
    its a dvd/vcr recorder and im using it to record some old videos to dvd. i had a previous one that worked fine and i didn't have this problem...

    When i record a dvd and i try to play it on my dvd player it will not allow me to drag the sliding bar forward or backward and does not allow me to fast forward or rewind. can anyone help me with this problem. im not sure what the cause is. dvd wise or the player or some settings (although i have scanned the manual from cover to cover and found nothing)

    would appreciate some help/advice or somewhere to look as google search results did not turn up the kind of question i was trying to ask ( perhaps to my embarrassment an inadequacy to use it properly :P
