Possible Eircom Netopia 3347W router fault

I'm nearly certain there's a fault with all 3347W routers from Eircom. Mine kept disconnecting at random even though I had excellent signal strength, and I checked power saving on my laptop/iphone/xbox 360/desktop, but all devices were being regularly disconnected. So I did a Google, and it seems it's been happening to a lot of people with the router too, and it also seems to have happened to a few boarsies. I tried a fault finding process by using different 3347W routers both at my house, and herselfs, and different hardware and operating systems, but all devices are regularly disconnected at random, then reconnect without problems. I have also verified the latest firmware for the router, and have no additional equipment operating on the 2.4Ghz range in my house.

It seems to be down to using WPA/PSK encryption. If you use this encryption, the router will randomly disconnect, and reconnect devices. A workaround seems to be to disable encryption, but limit device access by MAC address. Since I've done this, I've had no issues. [EDIT to keep Kaimera happy] I'm aware this isn't the ideal situation, and leaves a vast security hole open, but it's the only option I have to keep a decent connection[/EDIT]

So, I'm left wondering if this is an issue that Eircom need to address, have many others been affected? According to Google they have, but it would be beneficial if people who are perhaps more knowledgeable than I could post with their experience, and perhaps if others have had issues could post here too and see if my fix sorts their problem also.

    Disable encryption?

    Dude, wtf?

MAC addys can be easily spoofed. You're wide open tbh.

Do you think I want to be doing that? Read my thread, it's the only option I have to keep a connection with the router. And please try to keep it on topic, we're discussing the issue with the router, not the whole subject of wireless security, something I'm well aware of the workings of.

No need to get snippy; you didn't seem to ack it was much of a risk initially.

I've got a netopia at home, can't recall which model it is however but I was using WPA/PSK fine. Can't check for sure at the minute
