    Hey,

I've decided to go ahead and build my first PC. I'm pretty new to all this and would appreciate any help or comments on my spec below:

    CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz Socket LGA775, 8MB, BOXED w/fan
    MOTHERBOARD: Asus P5N-E SLI, nForce-650i SLI, ATX, Socket-775, GbLAN, DDR2, 2xPCI-Ex16
    RAM: A-DATA DDR2 PC5300 2048MB CL5 Kit w/two matched DDR2 667 1024MB CL5
    PSU: OCZ StealthXStream Powersupply ATX/EPS, 600W, 120mm Fan, 4/8pin CPU, 20/24pin
    SYSTEM DRIVE: Samsung SpinPoint S166 160GB SATA2 8MB 7200RPM
    STORAGE: Samsung SpinPoint T166 500GB SATA2 16MB 7200RPM
CD\DVD: NEC DVD±RW Burner AD-7173 IDE White OEM, Dual, LabelFlash, Multirecorder(Ram)
    GRAPHICS: XFX GeForce 8500GT 450M 256MB,GDDR2, PCI-Express SLI
CASE: APLUS Case Qubic, Black Midi tower (Without PSU)
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home SP2b English OEM

Is everything compatible? Am I missing anything? Is there areas I could/should improve without affecting the overall cost?

    Thanks!

    Looks OK generally, but:
would definitely consider a better case though
why do you need a Sli board if you're using an 8500GT, I can only assume gaming is not one of the intended uses...
Your optical drive is IDE, sata will be much neater...

    Hey,
    Thanks for the info...

I've also looked at the Antec Sonata III Miditower, Black w/500W PSU seems to have some good reviews and it would mean I don't need the PSU above?

I won't be using the computer for gaming. Mainly audio sequencers running alot of plugins and graphics programs (photoshop etc...). Would it be best to consider a different board?

Also taking your advice on the optical drive...NEC DVD±RW burner AD-7170S, SATA, Black (bulk) in place of that above.

    Thanks again

Does this all seem ok? I was thinking of purchasing the Artic Freezer Pro also, has anyone had any experience with this?

    Thanks

Looks good, are you planning on overclocking? these quads easily hit 3Ghz without much effort, would overclock well 2 since your getting a good cooler. Maybe you would consider changing the ram to pc2 6400's 800mhz to give you some headroom if you plan on overclocking at some stage.

Ddr2 ram is dirt cheap ATM. Could up to 4gb for not much more also. Here

    Thanks

Good cooler for dual core, not fantastic for quads.

If you are not going to be overclocking, it will be ok/not great.

(Had used a Arctic cooler freezer 7 pro on a B3 stepping Q6600 and replaced it as it just was not cooling enough, you might get more milage out of it if you get the newer (and much cooler!) Go stepping Q6600)

    You may want to consider

    or

    (if you have the space.)

    Personally I went with:

Looks fine. Might consider dropping the 8500Gt for the HD2400XT, not only is it cheaper, it's passively cooled so completely silent, and has hdmi connectivity.

If you're running a lot of programs at once 4gb of ram would be another area to look at w/64-bit OS. Course, you could use 4gb with 32-bit and just use the 3.25.

Do they still sell the Artic Freezer on Komplett? I was looking for a new cooler yesterday and I couldn't see it so I ended up getting this. You might laugh but it got some excellent reviews....surprisingly. When I first looked it up, it was actually to see how bad it was....ended up buying it. 19 euro....

*NB I AM NOT RECOMMENDING YOU ATTEMPT USING THIS FOR A QUAD JUST IN CASE SOMEONE MISINTERPRETS THAT :D

That looks suspiciously similar to an artic cooler.....

    Fan looks different but otherwise.....

    Rebadge job?

    Yeah, I know! Review here.

For 19 euro I really just had to try it.

seems that the akasa and the arctic both weigh in at exactly 520g....

Looks like a rebadge job if there ever was one.

    Sweet.

Thanks alot guys for all the feedback, really helpful

Your right PogMoThoin on the RAM going to up it to:
    A-DATA DDR2 PC6400 2048MB CL5 Kit w/two matched DDR2 800 1024MB CL5

There's little or no difference in the price...

And going to go with the HD 2400 XT its a much better price and the I like the idea of a silent card...

And komplett don't stock the Arctic Cooler but it appears they do cleverly disguised (or not so cleverly disguised) as a Akasa! Nice find Havok, definitely be worth a look at just 19euro even if it useless!

    Thanks again
