Hmm, now this is interesting. I live in the 'smelly Republic' but it's not exactly a million miles away. Any word on when in 2008?

    Spring.
Meanwhile, Apple is firming up plans to expand its European presence with a store in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The company is in the final negotiation talks with Victoria Square, a huge city center complex opening in Spring 2008 that will include retail, apartments, offices, restaurants and bars and entertainment venues.

Right now, Apple has reserved a space on the second level of the 800,000 complex. It would be the first store on the island, which ironically is already home to a substantial Apple technical support team, based in smelly* Cork (Republic of Ireland).

He he, I won't disagree with you on that particular edit. Sure they have cows and everything there :p

Now, 'Spring', eh? Should be fine unless they decide to make an iPhone that can speak Irish and Ulster Scots or something instead

    Oh.

The substance of the *Apple Agreement is about the rights and entitlements of citizens. It is about a new political dispensation on the island of Ireland and a new relationship between Ireland and *Apple.

While for some people, including *Many PC families and victims of *Windows, the situation is worse, the reality is that for most people things are much better today than they have ever been * Thanks to the great Apple stuff coming out these days.

*May have been edited --- Sorry for the edit later, i was rushing when i first wrote it. The above quotes are from a politician in NI. I am convinced he uses the same speech every time he comes out to speak, but with a few changes each time to counter the new situation ( a word he likes) and i reckon that would be his reply to the apple store.

Surprised they would go for Belfast before Dublin given the catchment area. But I guess it will be easy to roll out given the existing UK city presence. They also tend to wait for premium central locations, I'd say the new Arnotts Northern Quarter would be ideal but that's a bit off yet.

I don't know how easy it is to buy a Mac in Belfast, but certainly in Dublin there is no hassle in buying a Mac off the street or else Apple would have located a retail outlet; on Grafton Street and Henry Street, you have 2 shops on each to buy Macs.

Kindly refrain from insulting other cities, its off topic and offensive to users from the area you are insulting. Insulting users is of course against the charter.

Apologies, it was meant in good fun. I have cows down the road from me anyway so I can't talk :p

Of course it was meant in good fun. But now 440Hz is going to tell us that 20 people reported the thread and their houses exploded as a result of it.

I thought it would be in Dublin too to be honest, but the south has a lot of "Official" stockists - we have no such thing.
I was going to return my Macbook Pro at one stage, but that would have meant bring it down to Dublin, so it's just fair that it's us! :)

Oriel, firstly, anytime that I say someone has reported a thread IS ONLY WHEN SOMEONE HAS REPORTED A THREAD. In this case there has been no report, yet. Are you implying that when I have stated a thread has been reported in the past that this is not the case?

Secondly, the judgement as to whether your insult was meant to be 'in good fun' or not, was based on your cumulative remarks on this board, many of which have been intentionally insulting. If this was in fact 'in good fun' then that is fine, a preemptive reminder of the rules is still acceptable.

If you have an issue with this, take it to PM, and not on this thread.

    Regards.

If you want to buy a Mac, or any other piece of Mac hardware, there are plenty of official stockists etc in Dublin, Limerick, Cork etc.
We don't have anywhere like that here! Just right I say :)

Could someone explain to me how an Apple Store differs from existing establishments that sell Apple products? Will they do something useful like offer lower prices or are they just aluminium and plate glass boutiques designed to boost the already massive "I want one" factor?

nah, its all about the experience!!

    This one!!

Yup, no different to resellers really, except that the stock is higher, the people are more knowledgeable, and probably the after-sales is a little more direct. Prices etc are all the same.

I don't know if you know what I know ;), but from a meeting in Cupertino last week, Belfast is hoping to be opened by the end of Q2 next year and the Northern Quarter is to get the 1st ROI Apple Store when it is ready, which was hoped would be before the end of Q4, but that I believe is a little too optimistic but the possibility of an interim store in the near vicinity has not been ruled out........

The what now? Sorry I don't speak business, is this referring to a quarter of the year or a geographical quarter of the island?

This is what they mean by Northern Quarter

I'm assuming it will have a genius bar, and all the goodies that proper mac stores have, instead of those reseller shops we get like o2 here, where they just point and motion to the macs *over there*
