Flashing unbranded phone with 3 Software?

I have an unlocked Sony w880i which I was going to sell and buy a new phone with Three, but a colleague has given me a pre-pay sim pack for Three.

Does anyone know if I can flash the w880i with Three's w880i software and where I can get it from, or if they'll do this for me in store? And will I still be able to use MSN and Skype for free if the IMEI of my phone isn't a Three registered IMEI?

Why do you need to ruin a perfectly good phone by flashing it with proprietary firmware/software? The SIM should work just fine without that. All you need to do is go into a 3 shop or call them up and update your IMEI information on their server.

Well atm it has Vodafone software on it, so if you know where I can just get the original software from...?

Where can I install Skype and Messenger from, and where do I get the server details from - would that info be stored on the SIM card (haven't gotten the sim pack yet)?

Aha. Not sure where to get the unbranded firmware for free. There are sites that you can get it all from for a small fee if I recall. www.wotanserver.com is one of them.

Server details you can get from 3 themselves or else from Sony Ericsson. Once you update your IMEI details with Three then they should be able to do ll the settings for you. If not call their CC and they can send you the settings.

There's a place in Tallaght that does it too.

Three won't do it. I had a rather unpleasant dealing with their customer care for a similar issue last week. I have since had it resolved, by three.

They will only support their services on their handsets.
