Hi, flying into Gatwick on Monday. The hostel im staying in is close to Borough underground station. Can anyone give me some advice on how to get there ? Would rather not get a train as it was really pricey last time. Some kind of bus into city and then an underground maybe... ?

train or national express bus to victoria, disrict east bound or circle anti clockwise tube to monument (8 stops), about 5 minute walk though tunnels to bank, then 2 stops south bound on nortern line to borough, is a bit of a treck though

would really recomend the train, there are a few subarian train routes that go through london bridge underground from gatwick, then its just one stop to borough on the northern line underground

check out the transport for london website, quite a good route planner on it

Thats a great help thanks. Isnt the train about 30-40 euro return or something ?

Tusky. Take the First Capital Connect train at Gatwick Station to London Bridge. Change to the Northern line, and it's one stop down as said.

The FCC isn't an "airport express" train and isn't all that expensive.

That is by far the best route to take. A return Gatwick-London Bridge should be £17, make sure to get a ticket for First Capital Connect NOT Southern.

There are trains every 15mns and it takes 30mns. The train you should get is for Bedford, there may be a train to London Bridge scheduled first ignore this as it is a slow train that takes over 50mns.

Depending on exactly where the hostel is you might be as well off walking from London Bridge as it is only a 10min walk from Borough tube station, put the postcode or address into the TfL journey planner for accurate directions.

    Hi guys,
Was in London last weekend and took the Gatwick express into Victoria. I went to the booth to pay £26 each for a return for 3 of us and the fella there asked if we were all going and coming back the same time. I replied yes and we got three for the price of two! So it worked out at £17.00 each instead of £26.00 each.

Have no idea how long this offer is on but worth asking if there is a few of ye travelling together.

    Cheers,
    Mark

If price is a big factor then it is cheaper by coach, a return to Victoria is £12.20. Takes about 1h40 and departures are hourly. You'd still have to get to Borough by tube as well so it would easily take twice as long.

There is an even cheaper way by using local buses but it would take 3-4 hours and 4 changes of bus.

If you are planning on doing any sort of travelling around London by tube and bus get an oyster card, it costs £3 (which you can get refunded if you hand it back) but even if you only take 3 tube rides or a handful of bus journeys it will pay for itself.

If you need to travel by regular rail oyster is no good and you would be best getting paper travelcards.
