Just wondering if anyone has experience of trying to get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 4 in Heathrow. It says on the website to allow 75 mins. If this is true I have 20 mins to spare but is this realistic at around 10am? Any advice gratefully received.

It can really vary - security can be quite hairy at Heathrow at the best of times.

If both your flights are on the same ticket, you can go via the internal transfer route through the flight connections centre (your luggage would be checked through etc, so you'll clear security and be bussed over to T4). Even then, you're dependent on everything going to plan.

If you're on seperate tickets and have to collect your bags, make your way to T4 via the Heathrow Express and re-check in/drop bags and clear security again you might be ok if everything runs to plan :)

I did T1 to T4 two weeks ago, with hand luggage only on a BA flight. I printed my boarding pass at the BA self service machine in T4.

My route: Exit Irish arrivals, down stairs and follow signs to Heathrow Express, get on (free) train - make sure not in direction on London - and exit at T4. Easy peezy. Took about 30 mins, but be aware: 1. Heathrow express trains max wait is 20 mins; 2. Queues for security at T4 can be long.

The return route (T4 -> T1) is easier, as they bus you to flight connections, from where you can walk to T1.

My reading of your post would indicate 95 minutes between flights.

Provided you're flight lands on time and gets to gate quickly, you should do it whether you're checked through or have to pick up your backs and check in again.

My most recent experience of T1 to T4 (having checked through at Dublin) was 20 minutes from Arrival Gate to Depature Lounge, but I didn't have to collect another boarding card at flight connections. If you have to do that, allow 20 mins. Also when I got to the transfer bus it was just about to leave, saving another few minutes.

Heathrow is busy most of the time and in my experience of transferring there, the volume of people transferring seems to be constant regardless of the time of day.

I went from T1 to T4 a couple of months ago as I was going to Delhi. I had a large backpack and hand luggage and made it in about 30mins. Theres a train connecting the two terminals so it shouldnt take you too long. Be carful about the new security regulations in Heathrow such as you can only bring on one piece of hand luggage etc check the website and make sure you comply with everything this should speed up your trip a bit. Enjoy :)

75 mins should be fine if you're checked all the way and have your boarding card, and just pray you don't get a departure restriction (slot) out of Dublin into Heathrow - can really mess everything up.

As imalwayshappy said, be careful about bag rules etc.
