Hello all. I have 3 AKG c418's. one got an almighty whack of a drumstick recently and hasn't regained conciousness:( A few things now. Does anyone know what the possible problem could be? just a disconnected wire maybe? something i could fix myself? If not, Could anyone recommend somewhere I could take it to get repaired in Dublin or surrounding area?

Your advice/help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    J.

If you can pull a wiring diagram off the website, your chances of having it fixed by a good electrician are improved. Though if the capsule's shot, you're in a world of trouble.

Something similar happened an SM57 of mine and Shure UK basically told me I'd be better off buying a new one because the cost of a new head capsule was nearly the same.
Maybe yours isnt as bad, but sure an email to AKG couldnt hurt.

please don't compare a 57 being broken to a 414. different issues altogether.

you should be able to get this fixed by any pro-audio specialist in dublin. I wouldn't advise trying to do it yourself. They are extraordinarily sensitive capsules.

genuine apologies for thinking he was talking about a 414. i guess when you see AKG c41x your brain fills in the rest.

Those things are so small they are going to be a nightmare to repair, unless it's just a loose wire.
A good twack with a stick could also move the diaghpram or crack the PCB.

NJM in harolds x are good repair guys, expensive but good.
    I'd have a go myself.
