And it would seem that the Ward Union are still waiting for their licence . :(

Shooting/trapping magpie and crow species is controlled under a derogation issued every 4 months by the wildlife department and signed by the minister. The derogation for the winter season has been issued but not signed by the minister due to 'staffing' issues.
I rang the nargc office this morning and have been told that a further memo is being sent to all RGC secretaries today stating that the derogation will be signed and that there should be no issue with shooting.

John , from what I understand the Minister has recruited his staff from his own party , and based on the most recent briefing to the various mounted hunts in the North East they may not be card carrying members of Country Side Alliance .:(:(:(

Wouldn't surprise me now the greens have sold their soul that they're going to act the fundamentalist on what the majority of the public regard as trivial detail and score a few easy points for their image....

    Terrier,
I have noticed that alright, frustrating.
At least on the old site there was information and the seasons and game were outlined clearly, albeit not always up to date.

That was an interesting meeting all right - but quite frightening in some respects, especially the bit about Gormleys staff.

So is it fingers off the trigger/ release the trapped ones or what????

The greys are taunting me, I woke up yesterday and saw a magpie in the garden how do they know.???

Folks I suppose this could be the start of a drawn out proces. Maybe the national shooting and hunting organisations and the different farmers' organisations should start contemplating organising countryside demonstrations as they done in the UK in the recent past.

Bet you that in a couple of years the same people who're trying to stop vermin shooting are going to be all alarmed over the decline in the number of songbirds, frogs etc etc if their shananigans work now.

Facts only please i.e. what is the current situation and what needs to be done to resolve it? Facts please.

I'll email the local TD's but only when I know what I'm talking about.

    Hi John Griffin,
I do not believe we know each other personally, but I am a reader of a newsletter you are familiar with and of course your web site.
    Keep up the good work.

Not as yet. Spoke to a well connected source in the pub last Thursday (unless something has changed over the weekend).

If the derogation is going to be backdated, when it is signed it will have been legal to have been shooting the species named all along, as in theory it will have been in force from the date given, so what's to stop shooters now?

Nothing ....... If one is willing to take the heat in the interim, BUT there really is no heat, "Rangers have not been instructed to target hunters".
The reg. will not have the force of law until someone hands him his pen. :D
To be perfectly honest as far as I am concerned the old Reg. is still in effect and will be until someone puts pen to paper and gives it the force of law.

    Hi,
I've been watching this space with interest and have asked a few questions for ye, basically the only reason it hasn't been signed is due to nobody putting it in front of the minister. There is no talk of withdrawing the derogation, it has actually happened many times over the years with many different ministers. Rangers have not been instructed to target hunters shooting species listed on the previous one. Its been happening for years ( it's the civil service:rolleyes:) don't worry about it. It'll be signed eventually and backdated as happens everytime.
