Internet images distorted after I've changed the DPI setting

I increased the DPI settings on my laptop cos I think the native resolution is a bit small and could be straining my eyes. All goes fine with images apart from those images displayed by the web browser (IE6 on Windows XP) - they are distorted.
I don't have the same problem in Netscape or Firefox but that is because they seem to ignore the DPI settings and therefore the fonts they use are too small.

So is there any way of setting up IE so that the images will not be distorted when the DPI is not at its default value?
