Selling photography online

I feel I've almost got to the stage where some of my good stuff is worth selling, and might be able to attract a few buyers, so I'm looking at possible online solutions to do this.

I see photobox.co.uk do this, but there are limitations like they only pay to a UK bank account. Then there are alternatives like etsy.com, ebay, etc which are much less automated and you'd have to do the printing and fulfillment yourself.

Anyone have any direct experience of such providers ? Whats the best way of doing this, with as low an up-front investment as possible so as to allow a little experiment ?

    Thanks

finding the place to sell them from is actually the easy part, finding customers willing to spend money on your prints is the hard part.

i've had photobox pro accounts, had stuff on deviantart, sold on ebay and none work all that well but ebay is the most consistant seller

I use Etsy. Quite a good service, if US-centric. Payments are through Paypal.

Should you wish to explore the possibility of your own shop online i can thoroughly recommend mrsite. You can pickup a years hosting, your own .com address and a fairly easy to use 'build it yourself' website for little more than 30 euros. (get it through amazon rather than directly at mrsite for the discounted price!) The site enables you to create a gallery / shopping facilites and allows paypal automatically. (credit card payment available with their 'pro' version which costs extra). You can produce a really decent, professional looking site with a bit of hard work.....if not willing to put the effort in or not interested in this option then go for one of the alternative solutions.

    Best of luck!

Yeah I can understand that. I work in web marketing, so I reckon I'm more likely to be able to get prospective buyers on my site than the average joe. After that it's just a matter (easy says he!) of getting people to actuall fork up.

I guess I see this as an experiment - if I can get people to my site, which I think I can - can I get them to buy something ?

Ebay probably works for you as you had a captive audience there. Aside from that its just a platform to sell stuff. Photobox can probably do the same for me if I can get people onto the site...
