Bringing prescription medicines from one country to another.

What is the legal situation with bringing prescription medicines from one country to another. I often bring antibiotics with me abroad in case of getting tonsilitis.

I have seen other threads banned where people asked of buying prescription medicines from outside the country, e.g. online. So I am presuming the same thing might be true here?

Or is it just illegal to buy online or transport if you did not have a prescription in the first place?

Is there a website that lists all prescription drugs in ireland? if not how are you to know what you can legally buy online or bring into the country?

It is legal to bring prescription medicines in and out of a country so long as they were prescribed by a doctor registered in that country and from a pharmacy in that country and they are for your own personal use.

It is illegal to import prescription drugs without a license, but bringing your own supply back is legal.

So if you go to spain, see a spanish doctor and receive a prescription there. subsequently you cash it in spain and then bring the medicines back with you, its legal.

So go onto an online pharmacy and order by mail order is illegal (unless you have an import license).

    Thanks for that.

Also is there a list of all prescription drugs available. i.e. I am not sure what is or isnt prescription so do not know what I am allowed to buy online.

don't buy anything online is the best rule of thumb even if you are after paracetamol. You have absolutely no control of the quality of the product or even if it is the same thing you ordered.

hey Ruprect i'm a massive fan of ruprect myself. I'm about to go traveling also and have been on prescription mediaction for about four months which i need to continue taking while i'm away so the deal is that you need to do a bit of research about the meds you are bringing and ensure that they are not illegal in any of the countries that you will be visiting. anti biotics you'll probably have no problem with i think it s really only for serious pain medication and methadone and the like but just double check. also carry the meds in their original packaging and make sure the name on them corresponds to the name on your ticket i asked my doc for a note just in case aswell, just saying what madication i'm on etc. The other thing to do is to make sure you know the pharmacuetical name of your meds in case you need to fill your script in another country and they dont have the brand you usually get. Hope this was helpfull to you Ruprect and enjoy your travels!
