    Hi,

Just looking for some recommendations from people who have been on holiday to Thailand.... which airline is the best/cheapest to get there with?
Should i book accomodation in advance or am i better off waiting til i get there and book something?...

    any advice appreciated...cheers

Re accommodation just book one or two nights maybe for when you arrive and the rest as you go. An abundance to be had and it's best to actually look at the place before you commit to it. That said it is advisable to book something in advance for the Full Moon Party if you're planning on going. Lot's of places insist on you booking a min of three nights for it.

re. flights I flew Qatar airways and had a bagful of complaints on return. That said if they're streets ahead prisewise I'd suffer them again. They were actually grand to fly with, only had problems with their ground staff and the hotel we were put up in during our extended stopover in Doha. Avoid the Doha Palace at all costs! Even the cockroachs there are getting a bad deal!

    Enjoy your trip.

    A.

Nice one Aura, I'm flying with Qatar via Doha in two weeks:eek::eek::eek:

    Oh-oh!!!!
I heard they were one of the better airlines to go with..
    Decent legroom etc.

To the OP I got my return flights via Heathrow and Doha on ebookers.ie for €1055 leaving on the 18th Dec and coming back on the 10th Jan.

We've booked accomm for Koh Samui and Koh Pangan until the 27th Dec but very hard to find anything on the web now for Phuket, Koh Tao and HUa hin, all booked out!!!
If you're going at Xmas I'd recommend booking something defo!!!

I flew Thai and they were great. Most of the SE Asia airlines are fine, except perhaps Garuda (spl?).

As for Qatar airways, if the ground staff are contracted (eg Servisair or the like), by all means complain to the airline, but in my experience, most ground services contractors are awful.

Check lastminute.ie for flights to thailand.

You can get cheap ones with Quatar on there.

Quatar are 1 of only 3 5-star airlines in the world (Singapore and someone else being the others).

They are luxury in the sky, but DO NOT CHECK IN LATER THAN 3 HOURS BEFORE YOUR FLIGHT!!!!!!!!

We got caught out badly as they OVERBOOK every flight by about 30 seats to ensure full capacity every time. We checked in 2 hours before our flight but were told that we were late and our seats were given to others who were late on their flight the day before. This happens on a daily basis with Quatar. You could be waiting for a whole 24 hours til the next flight with no vouchers for as much as a cup of tea.

But check in on time and you can enjoy nice food and movies and music on your own personal tv with as much beer as you want.

i went in summer 2005, booked few months in advance with Ethiad Airways on expedia.co.uk - it was £350 sterling for a return flight from gatwick to bangkok via abu dhabi.
id recommend Ethiad anyway. had never heard of them before but theyre pretty good.

Etihad are flying out of Dublin now via Abu Dhabi. Great Airline with shiny new airplanes and comfy seats :D haven't looked recently but a few months ago tickets were around €700

I flew with Lufthansa, no problems and comfortable. I booked a room in the ShangRi La (ok hotel) for the first 3 nights and the rest I sorted out as I needed. Flights down to the islands are cheap and I think I booked them when I arrived in Bangkok. Accommodation is easy to get on the islands except around full moon party time in Ko Pha Ngan, but if you head over to Haad Riin a few days before it then it should be fine.
