Sorry if this is the wrong forum but I though some people browsing here might have some useful (or indeed inside) Knowledge of Ebay.ie

My mate is doing a thesis on the localisation of global trading ( or something like that !) basicially reasons Ebay create local versions, how they market same etc

If any one thought they might have some insight on same they might pm me - or offer suggestions

I think he would love to be able to add an interview format to if some one worked for Ebay , or indeed know a Name of the right person to pursue

Can't offer too much help but I'd imagine the reasons eBay create local versions and sites would include the following:
    • Currency conversion, all prices are given a rough conversion to your currency to aid in comparison of prices from sellers in all parts of the world
    • Aids locally based sellers. For sellers of large or bulky items, it can aid in selling it to people based in your own country. Shipping could be an issue when dealing with foreign buyers.
    • Gives the impression of locally based sellers which could encourage nervous buyers as it looks like they're buying from someone local.
    • Brand awareness and promotion.
There's probably more but I've never really thought too much about it.

If your mate is looking for info from eBay on this then he'd probably be best trying to contact a manager there to give an interview, or just answer a few questions in an email or something.

There are eBay employees on Boards, but I don't know if it would be allowed for them to discuss the companies policies with people without the permession of eBay. They might be able to tell you who to contact for that information though. I'll leave it to them to contact you if they see fit.
