Hey i really dont know if this is the right thread, so feel free to move me!! I was just wondering can an expired passport still be used as valid i.d.? I'm turning 18 next tuesday and since i dont have a driving licence, and the wonderful age card system means i wont get that for another 3 weeks, I need some other form of i.d. i have college i.d. but i dont think thats accepted anywhere??
Anyway I do have an old passport which expired last year. Since it has my D.O.B. and photo (albeit a younger me!) would it be accepted??

Depends on what you're using it for. I know plenty of people who carry expired passports as ID for getting into clubs - most bouncers seem happy to accept them. However, for official purposes (opening a bank account, travelling, etc), an expired passport is useless.

Well personally I tried using an expired passport once and the bouncer wouldnt accept because "It was out of date", managed to bluff my way in anyway but I guess most bouncers will accept it as seamus said.

If you do try and use it and the bouncer is a bit thick about, just explain your situation. Particularly on your bday, I doubt the bouncer is going to think you are using someone elses passport given the date on it

If you had that and your student i.d. together you would have a fairly good chance of getting in, once you're not too drunk, a lot depends on whether or not the bouncer likes the look of you

As you will quickly discover, bouncers = w*nkers, 99% of the time anyway

my expired passport has never been a problem for me. i just tell them i'm the same person i was before the expiry date.

i think they just say it to you to gauge your reaction and find out if you're a scumbag.

I like to think I'm the tiny minority of 1%.

I used my cancelled passport for a few months, never had a problem, once you can back it up with your student card you should be fine.
