Are there any Krav Maga trainings in Greystones, Kilcoole or perhaps Bray? Does anybody know something about trainings in these areas? :-) I found some classes, but all of them are based in Dublin.

If you don't have any joy here, let me know if you would like me to move this thread to the self defence / martial arts forum

Oh, that's fine, you can move this thread. Cheers.

@mods - hope it's OK that I moved the thread here, but no joy in the Greystones / Charlesland forum for the OP.

I'm pretty sure there is no krav maga in the bray/greystones/kilcoole/delgany location.

Im afraid you're out of Luck..the nearest IKMF instructor to you would be Aidan Carrol in Drumcondra.

In the mean time if you want to train Krav Maga you have the weekend/1 day seminar option.
This is an option much criticised here on boards..so....im merely presenting it as an option for you!

Myself and Aidan are hoping to get an IKMF Global team instructor over in Early Feburary..around about the 8th..for a couple of seminars.
If you want to train KM..i'd strongly recommend going along, the training, in terms of KM doesnt get any better.
(No details yet in terms of costs etc.)

    Kruk,

you have three options in Dublin, but none in Greystones/Delgany/Kilcoole:

    www.kravmagaireland.com (Patrick Cumiskey)

    www.kravmaga.ie (Aidan Carroll)

    www.beyondfitness.ie/kravmaga.htm (Robert Bednarski)

All three are fully certified instructors and all offer different types of classes/courses.

I have trained with Patrick Cumiskey and can fully recommend his courses without any hesitation. Patrick does 2 day courses and 12 week courses and I question if you can teach even the basics in less than that time, but that is only my opinion.

I have not trained with Aidan or Robert and do not know them personally, but would have no reason to discourage anyone from considering them as an option.

By the way, if anyone tries to embellish their reputation by telling you about their membership in a specific KM-related organisation and does negative propaganda against the reputation of others, then you should maybe be more wary of the "embellisher". My experience is that the best in a field (I am not specifically talking about KM) do not need to use any negative propaganda.

There are at least three worldwide KM organisations and they all provide reputable and reliable certifications. In addition there are government departments in Israel and in Poland (and possibly in other countries) that can certify as well. So IKMF, or Krav Maga Worldwide or the Polish Ministry of Sport...there is not only ONE "god". ;-) To find out a bit more you can go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krav_Maga and check the section "After the death of the founder".

The instructor training seems to be tough and professional in all organisations and associations and once a trainer is certified, I would think that he will not suddenly forget his skills. The ongoing membership in one of the organisations like IKMF or Krav Maga Worldwide, however is a bit of a franchising ploy. As long as you pay after passing the instructor exam, you are allowed to use the affiliation in your advertisement.

So I would recommend to go by reputation of the instructor and not by his membership and as I said earlier ALL three instructors that I mentioned above have a good reputation.

I agree with you on almost everything..and believe me .....anyone in support of Krav Maga here on boards is most welcome IMO.

However..theres more to ones subscriptions that being allowed to use the affiliation. Theres also the matter of instructor training and to do so you must be affiliated.
The reality is that one does forget parts of techniques and thus constant training/refreshing is required.....maybe thats just me!!
Of course those little ommissions/blunders would not be recognised by anyone outside of the system..for me personally, i'd know and would want to improve.

    Hi
I attend classes of Robert Bednarski, but it is another place: on Guinness Brewery, its Diageo Sport Hall (Corner Thomas Street and Watling Street)
Classes three times a week! Beyond fitness that’s probably some extra place.
    This is his web side
    www.kravmagagroup.com
This web side is not to smart, but Robert was talking something about, that in December he will exchange this side for something modern and more usefull.
But he drives these classes excellent! Very dynamic and aggressive, exactly like it has to be done. In Sweden we were practicing KM exactly like that!
I attended a few Aidans Carroll classes, but I wasn’t glad, because his classes were a bit flat, and most of Aidan students attended these classes without suspensors (groin protector).
That's uncomfortable for everyone. You have to do all technique in slow movement.
Robert doesn’t let anybody take classes, without groin protector, so we fight real serious. There is international atmosphere, Irish, Swedish, French, Spanish and Polish people. Robert is Polish. His english is enough good.
So I recommend you Roberts classes.

    Hello all,

My name is Paulo Oliveira and I moved recently from Portugal to work in Dublin, and I'm currently living here in Charlesland/Greystones.

It's good to know that there are a few people interested in KM here, and I'm currently looking for a place to teach KM. If by anychange some of you know a place were I can start a class, I would be very greatfull.

I started teaching KM, in Portugal, 3 years ago, and my teacher is Najim Elkebar (http://www.academykravmaga.com).

Last year I was elected President of the Portuguese Krav Maga Association, and I manage to have 2 of my students being promoted to Initiator (Instrutor Level I).

I'm also a 2ºDan in TaeKwonDo (WTF), with 5 years teaching experience.

Now just to give a friendly advise to everyone, and I say this to every person that comes to my classes...

When you want to start practising something, try to find out exaclty what it is and what is not. Then go and try to meet every Instrutor, see the class, talk to the teacher, and then make a decision... Don't go there just because the teacher is "World Champion", or he's the "Official representitive of this organization", etc... That doesn't mean, his the right Instructor for you... I've meet several people that had a bad experience with a specific Instrutor and because of that they just stop practising, beliving that every Instrutor was like that one... Like in everything, there's bad Instrutors and good Instrutors... ;)

To finalise, I will leave you with 2 of my favorite Japanese phrases:

    - "When the student is ready, the Teacher will come..."
    - "Bleed on the Dojo, Smile on the Batlefield..."

    Sorry for long post... :)

    Kindest Regards,
    Paulo Oliveira

PS: Here's my website (http://www.rbkm.net) ... It's currently only in Portuguese, but a newer version, in English, will be available soon...

Are you still in Greystones area and if you are, do you run KM classes?

    Hello,

Just to let you know that I'm still searching for a place to start the KM classes in Greystones/Charlesland area.

My idea is to start in September but that will depend on the number of people interested and if I find a suitable place for the practice.

    I'll keep you posted...

    Paulo Oliveira

PS: Still working on putting the website in english... www.rbkm.net

Hi Let me know if you have any joy yet. Currently looking at doing the 2 day course with Patrick Cumiskey in KravMagaIreland in a few weeks.

I travelling from Wexford so Bray / Greystones would be a lot handier.

Think I would like to try it with Patrick first as he seems to have a really good rep.

Let me know if you manage to get setup.

    Cheers,
