The weather will be very unsettled through the week. It will be windy much of the time. Bands of persistent rain will cross the country from the west with cold showery conditions following. On Monday night, rain and drizzle will spread from the west to all areas. South to southwest winds will strengthen, becoming strong and gusty overnight. On Tuesday a band of heavy rain will cross the country from the west with a risk of localised flooding. It will be mild and windy with fresh to strong, gusty southwest winds and temperatures of about 11 to 14 degrees. The rain will clear in the evening and early night, with cold showery conditions following. Wednesday will be cold and windy with heavy showers of rain or hail. Winds will be fresh to strong westerly. Thursday will be milder, but windy and very wet, as more heavy rain crosses the country. This rain will again, be followed by cold, windy showery conditions on Thursday night and Friday with strong, gusty west to northwest winds.

What an optimistic little forecast from met eireann.

It's going to be like this all week. the type of weather we had today you wouldn't see sitting on top of rockall.

Looks like winter is finally here.
