cheap train tickets with the credit union

    is it true you can get cheaper irish rail tickets if oyu join the credit union?
    how much of a discount?

    Yeah you can get these flat rate single tickets, they're 25 or 30 euro or something (haven't been organised enough to get one in ages!) and you write in your originating and destination station and the date on them and then cover it in sticky-back plastic so you can't re-use it. I assume you can still get them anyway, they were handy out.

    eta: a bit of a google suggests that it varies among different credit unions.. that some don't do it at all and some only do it for local routes (eg in Limerick you can get cheap Limerick-Dublin tickets). What I described above is the way it worked in my local one (Skibbereen) the last time I checked.

    Not rubbish at all, use them myself, have one right in front of me now.

    Single ticket to Cork: €30

    Not much cheaper, but handy if you are going one way or staying for more then a few days, just generally more flexible.
