    Hi all,

Dealer training is going to be an ongoing thing in the Jackpot Casino, Montague Street D.2 (I haven't actually asked Duke and Sarah yet but I'm pretty sure there will be no probs)....

Saturday 15th Dec will be the next session. 8pm start.

Please learn all the basic rules of poker before you arrive. Also, please email stephen@pokerireland.ie so I can confirm numbers.

When emailing please don't ask how much it costs, the more people that ask that question the more I will be iniclined to charge for my time in the future :)

Mods can we please sticky this thread as this will be an ongoing fortnightly thing depending on interest? Cheers.

What event are you training for? If I'm free I'll head down definitely, always wanted to get dealer training.

No event in particular, the next IPO will need 110 dealers minimum so we may as well get ready now.

Just send me an email with a mobile contact number.

    Cheers,
    Stephen.

Hi there, I wonder if there is any plan to have some dealer-training sessions in the West of Ireland (ie. Galway or Limerick) anytime soon? I would be interested in attending one of those….

    Thank you.

    Hi all,

Just wanted to type up one more reminder about this....I would like to get more than two people attending this Saturday.

We will be doing everything we can to organise dealer training outside of the pale too. Just send an email with your mobile number to register interest (there will be a small charge for dealer training outside of Dublin to cover costs incurred).

    Cheers,

If anyone is thinking about dealing in the next IPO i just hope its not the same as this years one I worked there for it and it was the worst place i ever worked.

First off had to train dealers a half an hour before the tournament started and got no thanks for it or no extra money for it.
Second there wasn't enough dealers up there so never got any breaks (was dealing a cash table for 3 hours straight while they had even players dealing).
Third there wasn't enough chairs had to sit on and had to stand at one point and deal.
Fourth there was no food provided for the dealers had to pay for everything except water.
Fifth after finishing working for 12 hours had to find my own way home (a 3 hour drive) and was given nothing towards getting there or no offer of a place to stay. Only for i knew somebody going the same place we had to get a taxi down and cost 200 euro. I only paid 50 because it was all i had on me because wasn"t paid yet.
Finally it took them 3 weeks to pay me and 4 weeks for tips (40 euro) and was not worth it for the hassle. I was really dissapointed with the whole day and will not be working for them again if asked.

I have nothing against Stephen or any of them but i was told it woud be well worth the day to work it but it wasn't so just letting dealers know. Sorry if i've offended anyone in this post.

You haven't offended anyone mate but you also have not identified yourself. For all I know you are just some random person typing these words to "have a go".

If you have any genuine complaints you certainly never made any effort to inform me. All dealers were paid wages on the day (or so I thought, anyone that didn't receive wages simply texted me and were paid very quickly afterwards - from memory there were about 6 people that were in this situation). As regards your other indiviual complaints all I can say is that there were lessons learned. Food will be provided for dealers at the next IPO.

As regards cash games, yes we tried to keep them open for as long as possible. Because the whole event ran in terms of minus figures we tried to make as much money as possible out of cash games (without being greedy or anything)....We did have to pull all dealers off of cash tables at one stage in order to get the tournament running in some way smoothly again.

However, if you did not make adequate preparations to arrange travel/accomodation it is not my fault. Everyone was fully aware of the tight finances that we were running on and although some dealers were given travel/accom expenses the majority were not but were told well in advance that this would be the case.

As regards tips; these were given online by players so it took a little while for us to sort them out and get it transferred through Mermaid. Again apologies there but if you think you were given a bad deal at any time you could have and still can raise the issue with me now. I was also on a well deserved holiday for ten days after the tournament and came back to a very busy schedule which basically meant I was working late at night to check and double check that the tips paid were the correct amounts.

To anyone else thinking of working at the next IPO you can rest assured that things will be very different. The reason we are starting to train staff now is so that we can have one TD to every ten tables as well as one rotation dealer per ten tables so that nobody will have to deal for more than an hour without at least stretching their legs (I know casino dealers do a much quicker rotation but this is about standard for big tournaments)....

What all this means is that we will be confirming attendance from a minimum of 150 dealers and will be expecting a maximum of 30 not to show up on the day so will have at least 120 staff for a maximum of 1,000 players.

Before posting something like this perhaps you could simply think of the fact that we are working to ensure that poker gets bigger and better. To this end people like yourself will have a lot of well paid part-time work available in the future. The fact that everyone was so stretched on the day of the IPO wasn't just down to us....We had 30 dealers that decided not to show up despite countless phone calls and texts from me confirming that they would be there.

me and some mates were dealing at this and got paid that night, except 1 who had to leave early and he got paid a few days later after he rang the clamper guy

maybe i was lucky, but i had plenty of drinks given to me and i saw a load of chairs over against the wall and at empty tables

are you sure you were dealing at the IPO and not some other tournament ?

or do you work for a competitor of Steven's and feel that this is the way to slag him off

its peeps like you that do nuthin but whine all the time, that have an axe to grind or a vested interest in other peeps failings, that does nothing to help players or dealers, at the moment its easy enough to get dealer work, but with peeps like u around, these organisors wil start gettin picky who they have workin

    yeah, nice 1. very constructive

pokerireland have hardly tried to screw anyone over. Ste will be the first to admit that there was issues with the dealing operations at the IPO. Myself and two mates worked for a session at the event, and if we had a problem we said it to ste or one of the other TD's. I'm 10000% certain if you said "ste, i'm starving and havent eaten" he would have let you away to eat or provided food. I cant imagine him be gestappo-esque "NO, YOU MUST KEEP DEALING!!!!" etc etc. he's a reasonable guy.

and it was a first time, enjoyable, cheap, record breaking effort, cut him some slack.

that said, i'm obviously a big fan of airing my grievances in public forums, so I do believe saying something is better than saying nothing. but dont be anonymous. say it to the employer first. if he/they ignore you then get online and ROAST the b*****ds!

constructive things will no doubt come from your post, ste will endevaour to make sure that all of your problems mentioned are addressed (see his posts and plans for next year) but that said i'm pretty sure all these issues were going to be addressed anyway for next year.

I am not slagging him off or anything like that am just letting dealers know. I do work for another company but i am not trying to put a bad name on them. I have no way of contacting him or anyone else to talk to them and i feel its too late for any of that anyway. I was not informed of no expences for travel and was not acually paid for 3 weeks and was not told i would be paid on the day. I know it was a big tournament and credit where its due but you have to look after the dealers who work it, like probably every TD would say without us you wouldn't have a tournament to run.
Again sorry if i have offended anyone with this post.

why would you assume there's travel expenses? work starts at x time in venue y. its not the employers job to get you to y, he just wants you there when he wants you there.
    Only Aces wrote:

why would you expect to be paid on the day if you were not told you would be? very rarely have i been paid on the day whenever i've worked these events. come to think of it i'm still owed EPT wages... hmmmm....

couldnt agree more! players are everywhere, but without quality dealers tourney's wont happen!

Send me a PM, email - stephen[at]pokerireland.ie - or call/text me on 087 2424626 if you have anything you need to discuss or alternatively start a new thread.

This thread is about Poker Ireland offering free dealer training every couple of weeks for an hour at a time.....There is no obligation to work for us at any point in the future and a high percentage of people that took advantage of our offer over the last few months never intended to work for us and made that clear to us prior to training also.

    Thanks,
    Stephen Mc Lean
    Poker Ireland.
