how to set default applications on mac os x

im trying to set vlc as my media player for everything, how do i go about doing this.
imalso trying to find a file duplicate finding software that will also delete teh duplicate automatically?
iv beenon teh search for quie some time but still cant find anything!

You could try a site www.versiontracker.com in the OSX section for most mac Software. It has updates to purchased SW as well as Freeware and Shareware.
The Help menu on OSX itself is always worht a search, but you can't beat Google, but it depends on how you phrase the question.
