    OK

This years Christmas Special 10 euro Scratch tickets are out.
Top prize 100k.(you can win more than once on a single ticket)

    Hypothetical Question.

You work in a shop, and a little old woman/man comes in , they are delighted and inform u that they have just won 50 euros on the ticket they have in their hand. However when you check the ticket , the lotto machine tells you than there is in fact two winning amounts on the ticket 100k and 50 euros .

Do you inform the customer (sharing in their joy being your only reward)
    or
Give her/him the 50 euros , Let them go on their merry way (happy by the way ) and put the 50 back in the till and leg it to LOTTO HQ to collect a nice 100k +

Here's a good story from a few months back
    http://archives.tcm.ie/breakingnews/2007/06/27/story316635.asp
rio accused of €32.5m Euro Millions scam

    7:58:18 AM

Police in France are holding two shopkeepers and another person accused of a €32.5m Euro Millions lottery scam.

Police believe the shopkeepers, who own a tobacco shop in Paris, realised they had sold the winning Euro Millions ticket on May 11 when a man came in to check whether he had won.

The shopkeepers allegedly lied and told him he had not – and kept the ticket themselves, said judicial officials.

Investigators believe the couple passed the numbers to a third party – someone who would be less suspicious to authorities – who claimed to be the winner.

Three days after receiving the prize, the accomplice deposited €30m into the shopkeepers’ account, the officials said.

People in Britain and eight other countries – France; Spain; Austria; Belgium; Ireland; Luxembourg; Portugal; and Switzerland – play the Euro Millions lottery.

Thierry Herzog, lawyer for La Francaise des Jeux, the French lottery authority, said the game operator had two priorities: “Finding the real winner and exposing the people who carried out this scam.”

The Paris prosecutor’s office opened a judicial inquiry on June 19 following a complaint by La Francaise de Jeux.

Investigators tracked down the true winner and Herzog said everything would be done to ensure he took home the winnings.

I'd give her the 100k and then inheirit it in her will via a romantic charm offensive featuring flowers and rigorous lovemaking.

If it's a dude then same again only without the flowers.

Now really, WHY THE FVCK would an old person need €100k, eh?.

    Of course I'd rip them.

I think there is some clause whereby if you own/work in a shop that sells lotto, you cant do it.

yes, no question. Im a good person, and i have no doubt that i would be able to pay the person back there 100k withtin 6 months correcting any guilt issues. I just know that i could do better things with the money turn a proffit of above 100% and then pay the person back with my apoligies. Im sure people would understand.

    Best answer yet!

Seriously though, I wouldn't take the money. Karma and all that.

Not that I'd expect it to come back on me or anything like that but how could you live with yourself having robbed an old woman?

    (Cue crazy responses)

I certainly wouldn't deceive an an old person like that...On the other hand tho,if some young skanger came in with the obligatory trakkie and hoodie ,the eyeses darting everywhere, with the stiff legged walk, the white trainers and the fuzz on the upper lip and went "Aah staurage Bood, check dis bleedin tickeh ouh an tell me if I'm a bleedin wihnnur roih"

Sorry son ,losing ticket,Il'l dispose of it in the bin for you.

"jayyysus, bleedin suhre ih was goodh, giz twenhty Johhny Blew den mate"

    Try again next week.

Then I'd go into the back of the shop and look in the mirror and say" jaysus son,you did the state some service there"

Brilliant, think I'm with you on that one. Hypocritical I know but I certainly wouldn't lose sleep over depriving Anto of a few bob!

Tell them no you didn't win 50, but you won 100,000, then pocket the 50 for yourself as a self congratulatory pat on the back for being partially honest.

As soon as they hand over the card i'd judo chop them to the face and exit the store never to return again.

It's your duty to take the 100k . She'll only give it to the Church.

I'd give her both the €50 and the €100,000. Before she left the shop I would tell her that I am the son of a rich Nigerian king who needs to transfer all his money out of the country and if she would give me her bank details I would gladly give her 10% of the money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,503 ✭✭✭thefinalstage

I would rip the ticket in half and split the cash! muahahahah.

Dont want to spoil your fun folks but you would get found out. If you accidentally validate a ticket or scratch card worth over about 1k you will have to ring lotto hq because you obviously cant pay them out as you dont have the cash. So when the lotto notice that you havent contacted them youre screwed

    ok, think about this....

the old woman goes into the shop..... and the fella keeps the money...

she looese 100k or gets kicked or chopped or killed etc..... or a victim of nigerian king piracy? lol

now picture the old woman is your mother / grandmother

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,893 ✭✭✭Davidius

Inform them. After all I wouldn't like that kind of thing happening to me.

Though in the case of a complete and utter scumbag, I wouldn't inform them and then dispose of the ticket so nobody could have it! :D

Possibly not allowed for owners or managers, but I buy lotto tickets sometimes - working in shops is handy for avoiding lotto queues, just walked behind the tills today and claimed my own scratch card :D

Yeah good point. Best to pay off a homeless patsy to do the jib for you in case she pulls through and can ID you.

Obviuosly you kill the patsy afterwards too.
