3 mobile and skype unable to connect error.

Got myself a new 3 phone two days ago. The first day everything seemed great. I could connect to skype and had no problems with call quality, etc.

Since yesterday I have been completely unable to connect to Skype over the 3 network. I keep getting the error, Currently unable to connect.

After calling the helpdesk today I was basically told some people are having this problem, engineers investigating and no eta for resolution. It sounds to me like a very shoddy service, i'm only two days into having the phone and right now I'm thinking I want to return it. Anyone else having this issue?

    Hi,

There was a network issue over the weekend that resulted in 2 subsequent problems for some users in regard to using Skype.

1 - Incorrect username and password message given despite using the correct details.

2 - Users being told that they are currently unable to connect.

To resolve these, sign into Skype using a different username and password and then sign out. Once you have done this you should be able to sign back in using your original/correct username and password.

    HTH,

    Matt

I work for 3 and the problem at the weekend was actually with SKYPE themselves, as I myself was unable to log in even on a pc to skype, so there, ha ha

There was no Skype outage over the weekend with their normal client. I could log in fine to multiple accounts using my laptop and other machines across different networks. The problem was I believe solely the responsibility of the 3 network.

When I called up the helpdesk they never had any idea of this outage, serious lack of communication between the engineers in 3's NOC and the helpdesk. Not very professional in my opinion.

Anyhow, it seems the problem has been resolved however I would judge the service average at best. It would seem that there is a definite downside to using skype over the 3 network. Sometimes I can connect without any problems to friends who are logged in, sometimes I cannot. It all seems very flaky.

You may or may not work for three, if you are I'm sure Three's HR Department will be happy to know.

Keep your posts helpful or don't post at all,
Keep up what your doing and you'll be banned

    Have a nice day,

I tried using this method, no joy. i puled the phone apart, (battery, sim, memory card), reooted and lo and behold skype was working once more.

btw, Nice one Cabaal, you tell 'em :)

? So one problem isn't Three's fault. What about the other many hundreds of posts on the broadband forum.....

Unfortunately Three has earned itself a reputation so it's not surprising that the moment something goes wrong Three is blamed.

I'm an ex customer and from start to finish nothing worked well with the "service". I'm on with o2 now who by the way share the same mast and even though I get the same 1-2 bar signal the service is superior in every way.

    X

    Hi mise,

Let me know where you are (for coverage etc.) and where you purchased your phone - I figure you have already tried the previously suggested fix 04-12 and a reboot, re-seating battery and simcard?

We (3mobilebuzz) haven't seen this issue for a while... Send over the info and we'll see what we can do.

    Thanks,

    Matt

    Hi Matt,
Generally the phone is working ok.. yesterday it turned itself off 3 times for no reason. Signing in to skype is still a bit of a problem, as usually you have to take the battery out each time its turned off and that doesnt always work. My girlfriend is having similar problems. Eventually we both could sign in this morning but only after a lot of attempts. We both got the phones in 3G in Stephens Green Centre and it seem doesnt seem to matter where we are, Town, Ranelagh, Sandyford...

Love it when it works its just a bit of a pain at the mo

Edit: Just checked my firmware and its 18.0, is there an updated firmware available in ROI? Looking in the forums some people have 21.0 but not sure if thats over here

tried making several calls via my wireless and from the phone's in built network. The call quality was very very poor and kept cutting out. Could barely hear or be heard. It's a really nice phone I bought - alas I'll be deleting the Skype app cos it's crap! use skype on my computer and it occasionally has small problems but usually pretty good. Can't say the same about it on the phone though.......

Haha. Ya, just noticed it's from way back in 2007!! using HTC wildfire. this is my second time changing networks( was originally vodafone) because of the allure of cheaper calls and better deals(inc Skype). Alas the coverage on other networks just isn't as good and I removed the skype from my phone. Was driving me crazy people trying to ring me and not even being able to hear them n all. Serious drain on the old battery as well. Was advertised as having about two weeks standby time and I seem to have to charge it everyday. Only have it about 3 days............

Do you live beside a telephone mast perchance? That would give you great coverage I'm sure....lol.....hmmmm..........

I find the Skype app from three is better then the skype app from skype. Suppose give that a try? You can get it from three.ie

Having said that I also have a Nokia N900 and find Skype works better on that than on Android full stop.
