So far It's between a non-existent Dragunov I.E., a cheapish electric 'True' Dragunov, not the AK version

and a TM PSG-1, so it looks like the PSG-1 is in the lead....

Get in touch with Fiach Dubh if your considering converting something like the fake JG Dragunov into a proper one, He'll be able to tell ya everything ya would need. weather or not all the bits will be cheap or easy to find is a differnet matter.
Personally if your willing to spent that much id say ya would be delighted with a TM m14, even with its 280 or so stock fps its supposed to have a great range which when combined with a tightbore and an upgrade to 1 joule should certainly keep ya happy.

Another less common choice would be a modified Sig 550, i just assume from your choices your kind of looking for a DM rifle as opposed to a bolt action?

All I really want in a rifle is good performance a low profile and takes to a guille suit well ( Get yo talking bush on!)

I think a VSR Gspec would be ideal, nothing but good reviews bout em... Now you need a spotter! ;) lol

I just got the Maruzen L96 today and I'm very happy with it, its a bit pricy bit I think it was worth it. It's heavier and longer than a G-Spec, which I prefare.
The L96 is also easier to upgrade than a GSpec but it make more noise. It fire at 280 with .2s and its very accurate to 25 metres, I haven't tested it further yet.

I was talking to Derek in MIA and he does not think the VSR and GSpecs are that great at all. The SSG 69 rifle he stocks is better and cheaper than a VSR or GSpec.

Anyway if you are willing to spend around 400 blips for a sniper rifle I would recommend the Maruzen L96, though with a scope she weighs in at close to 4kg.

Get Airsoft internationals current issue, and the following few. Project Cyclops: Making a VSR 10 into a kick ass sniper! Some of the stuff they do means it would be over the limit but some you could do.

    Lethal.

with the 1j limit in Ireland most things can be used in the sniper roll so you should be looking at constancy of shoots the amount of sound it kicks out etc etc , this are the only thing you really need to consider as range will really have nothing to do with it. I would see this as more the DM (Designated marksman) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Designated_marksman.

My votes would be for tm m14 the nicest sounding gearbox I've come across to date great grouping and range out of the box or as something else said an AUG is also a very nice option.

Theres a gbb dragonov out there somewhere that I read about, from the review it was no scirmisher though.

You could also go down the route of an SPR or an SR-25. It's still a long-rifle and has plenty of accuracy and range in it. It's more of a marskmans rifle than a sniper so it would have some flexibility in its use

prime example: TM p90, it's incredibly accurate for such a small aeg, put some sound dampening around the gearbox, use the silencer that comes with the TR version and stick a red dot sight on it and you could happily snipe away with it

Yeah but I actually want rifle that when you look at it it screams SNIPER!
Not a bad idea by KD, but I'm feeling picky today.....

Whats the low down on the M14's as supplied by homegrown retailers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

Well from windows browsing of sites when im ment to be working :) you can find nearly all the version from Irish retailers clone tm and ca apart from that comes down to personal preferance and budget, i would go with the tm or tm clone as the mags are a lot easier to get from personal experience.

How do the clones preform in general? Are they reliable? Ill be getting a tight-bore barrel for it so out of the box accuracy isn't crutial.

Depending on the clone you may not need to tight bore, some of them come with tightbore as standard.

The JG G35 and DBoys M4 CASv are both well known to be sweet out of hte box.

Well Genghiz all i can really tell ya is i was looking to get an m14 to make into a DMR for a long time before i got my Aug and i asked a lot of guys on arnies and the acm forums, they all recommended the TM version to me despite the fact that i told them that i really was only looking to spent enough to buy a clone. The clones are supposed to be good accuracy and range wise [im sure someone else could give ya a better idea on just how accurate they are] but the TM version according to a lot of Arnies and Acm members has a 180 foot effective range in its stock form which when considering its fps is a great range, and is always the most recommended DMR rifle around.
It is insanely long though :p

    Get this :p

    That one isn't very good.

The VFC one is much better.

Get a G&P SVD - Add a hop and replace the brass internals with steel, stick a 6.01 barrel in and you have one kickass sniper.

First, are you sure that sniping is for you? It's a totally different game from assault. You might want to consider the playability of that game before going out to spend a large wedge on a top spec marker and then finding yourself bored to tears on a saturday.

    Just a thought.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,182 ✭✭✭Genghiz Cohen

I have always loved sniping, and having played a little ambush at HRTA and G-Tac, I do think sniping is for me, and even if I don't like it, I will have a sniper rifle as a little pet project and make it as accurate as possible, just because.

yeah thats a good point alvin, i always wanted to be a sniper aswell but a lot of it is spent hiding and doing nothing so im gonna get one of those sl9s sometime in the new year, then it can be used in the field aswell.,

Have ya decided what your getting yet Genghiz? or have ya narrowed it down?
Im always intrigued when theirs talk of sniper rifles ;)

How far would a sniper rifle's distance in shot be compared to an average aeg

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,518 ✭✭✭[--SC(+)PE--]

yould be doing well to get an effective range of 180 feet with a sub 1 joule rifle

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 63 ✭✭Foxy-07

still far enough to hit them without them noing were you are

still it would be less then that for most rifles and any bit of wind would cause no end of problems, not to mention the slow speed bb's do be travelling at that range resulting in some not being felt.

You are thinking real steal. It's a mistake in airsoft sniping. Accuracy, silence, and consistancy are king. Not range.

very good point ill take that on board when playing:)
