I was a little taken back today when I visited the Harvey Norman store in Naas.

I went down to check out the usual large array of flat panels to have a look around and see whats new. Headed first to the Home Theatre dark room where the usual Infocus projectors are normally running on a couple of 92" ceiling mounted screens, to find that they have been side-lined by an amazing and mind blowing display of 1080p Lcd screen displaying Full HD content on what I think was a Tosihba HD DVD (hard to make out in the dark!). Traffic stopping stuff! I spend about 10 mins staring at a 46" and 52" Sharp and a 46" Samsung running this amazing looking content (Casino Royal etc) The sharp's looked amazing.

Once I pulled myself away for the HT room I proceeded to moved around the rest of the panels. Passed those annoying Philip (Neon) Aurea and arrived at the small Panni display.

It was displaying the 32", 37" and 42PV70. They were running off a DVD and I think they was connected via RCA??.

I know there is alot of hard core Panni fans on this site and as this was my first real indepth experince of the 42PV70 I am very dissappointed at what I saw. I had to check twice to make sure it was the 42PV70.

The panni was miles behind the Sharp & Samsung for quality, colour and overall picture.

I am intending to invest in a new panel over the coming weeks which origionally was going down the route of a 42" Sharp Aquas Full HD. Following all the panni talk here I was starting to consider the plasma option a little more until today. I am finding it hard to understand what all the fuss is about.

Maybe this was something to do with the source the panni was connected to or cabeling but the screen really looked S**t. Has anyone got an explanation for this? I understand the panni is not 1080p but I cannot understand how it could be such a dissapointment.

If anyone is about the Naas area this weekend will they drop in to HN's and give me their opinion. Maybe the other HN's are doing the same display? I would love to hear if they feel the same or if my eyes and playing tricks?:confused::confused:

Normal DVD's and probably split between sets to boot , most shops do not set up the TV's properly except for the most expensive models , and they will usually have been set up by the company rep for best display.

Most shop asistants would have no clue , and just turn it on and hook it up to the nearest sourc4e .
Ive seen those panasonics in action properly set up and they are excellent.

At one time I saw a Sky HD display set up in a shop , and it looked terrible , had a quick look around the back and whoever set it up only used the Scart !! Thats how much shop most shop assistants know.

By the way , when you eventually do get your set ,be perpared to spend some time setting it up , it seems universally the case that flat panels look terrible out of the box. The default settings always look terrible at home.

Where can I go in the dublin area to see a panni in operation in its best form?

It wasn't the fact it didn't look as good as the 1080p's, its more the fact it look cheep as chips. Surely you don't need to have full hd content to make the panni look good? I think mathias may be on to something, probably slapped together?

    Will have to investigate further.
