    Kinda curious on this one.

How many people actively use newsgroups for downloading their internet goodness and continually have a chuckle about all the silly billies still using torrents?

Is this the last unspoken bastion of free download expression.

    Discuss.

With the constant barrage of piracy crackdown this seems to be the last unspoken bastion of free download expression.

I presume you are talking about legal downloads off course. Others wise...In before lock.

While definitely less policed, I wouldn't say unspoken of. The *AA's (RIAA, MPAA, etc, etc) are targeting these piracy havens too, for instance:

    http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/news/2150929/mpaa-takes-piracy-fight
    http://www.news.com/2100-1030_3-6042739.html
    http://www.ecommercetimes.com/story/piracy/59875.html

I also wouldn't say "last unspoken", because there are more "bastion of free download expression" (read: piracy :P), such as IRC.

I can see this thread being canned, considering the way the question is posed: you are pretty much asking do you pirate. I haven't read the charter.. I mean, eh, I have it learned inside out... but I would venture that piracy is a controversial topic.

Don't you know that piracy fuels terrorism, and pirates, and steals from old people, makes baby jesus cry and laughs at the disabled?

Interesting how some read piracy into this question. There are plenty of legal things available.

Old time radio broadcasts, out of copyright music, wallpapers. Companies such as microsoft, adobe and major component firms offer newsgroups.

Perhaps that's because you used the word "piracy" in your original post?

I searched for News Servers previously and they all require subscriptions and a lot have some sort of d/l limit.

Er, what exactly are newsgroups? And why would they be superior to torrents?

    Ok. That's enough.
    Just use google or wikipedia.
