Just heard on 2fm that the fight is off because Martinez failed to make weight. I rang the Kings Hall because I am meant to be going to this and they said it hasn`t been confirmed as being cancelled but they are waiting on confirmation either way.

2fm said that Martinez was a pound over and he was given an hour to lose it and he refused to which is just madness.

    I can`t believe this tbh. :(

If this is true martinez should be banned and or fined, this is unprofessional to say the least..hope he's forced to make weight.

Confirmation that the fight is off.

What usually happens in these situations? Will the rest of the card go ahead? And what usually happens about ticket refunds. I have until five pm tonight to cancel the hotel room or I will be charged for it.

theres a reason kiko didnt make the weight,he knew he wouldnt win imo and his promoters realised this and wanted to give him a few more fights before he fights another good opponent

Reminds me of Corrales v Castillo, Castillo beat him at the make weight. They had some wars..

wonder what happened with reporter and wayne?

The reporters asked him was he being a bit unprofessional coming in at 8 stone 8lbs. This was 4 pounds below the agreed match weight of 8 stone 12lbs. Martinez came in at 8 stone 13 and 3/4 lbs, a pound and 3/4 over the agreed weight.

Understandably Wayne was pissed off with such a stupid comment having made the contracted weight, this likely to be a woeful ending to his career. :(

What a farce this is, Tomas Rohan has just been on the radio talkin about it and he says they only sold 1,000 of the 5-6k tickets  , i was planning on goin from dublin myself and was really looking forward to lookin at it coz everyone had wayne written off and i was expectin to get 1 up on the bookies as i got wayne at 13-2!!!! At the weigh in Martinez refused to train it off and took a glass of water - like thats gonna help matters!! but I seen him at the dunne press conferences and he seems a sound bloke so I rekon he must have been at his body's limit in terms of dehydration if he couldnt shake off another pound and a half, they offered mccullough 15k STG of his purse as a gesture, I think its fair to say that kiko would have been at a minimum a stone over wayne getting into the ring so you cant blame mccullough but he must be gutted as this was his last hurrah and with no TV coverage, no tickets sold and a 1stone differential he must have been completely dissolusioned.

On the other hand where does this leave martinez, will he have to vacate???? is he struggling in a big way at the weight or just completely unprofessional or did his team think he was never going to win the fight???? his camp strike me as being a tad bit on the shady side. Its only a matter of time before the EBU start demanding answers on why he was fighting without his belt on the line at a catch weight and why he couldnt even make the catch weight.......its all a bit frustrating coz i had my "winnings" spent already :p:p

Martinez looks too big for his weight. i think he wll need to move up a division. he looked a monster compared to Dunne

what ever way you look at it its is unprofessional - the blame looks to lie at the feet of Kiko - unless there is something going on behind the scenes that we dont know about

Seemingly McCulloughs camp were offered 20k to go ahead with it and they wouldn't. They should have, he wont get as good a chance again.

yeah,...but its too dangerous for Wayne to fight a guy that much bigger (and younger). Wayne is in a serious risk category , he shouldnt be allowed box at all imo.

the damage dosent happen on the night , it catches up on a fighter in the forthcoming years, he's probably going to be mash-up when he's 45-50 anyway.

Kiko was closer 2lb over weight as i believe , and the offer of 15k sterling dosnt really compensate for the disadvantage. you cant buy back your health when your sluggish and slurring your words 5 years down the line.

then again , from the sounds of it , Kiko must have been dried out to bits if he came off the scales took a seat and clutched abottle of water. probably weakened a lot to make the weight. how much strength you can regain 1 day later depends on each individual body.

mind you, there are other ways to lose a bit!! shave ur head , clip your nails, exchange ur shorts for speedos (ehhhh maybe not) , avoid the centre of the scales' sensor points , and of course , fill your lungs with helium :)

Totally unprofessional. I've no sympathy for anyone who doesn't make weight. You are given a run up to the fight to diet properly so you do not have to cut much water - he had that choice and failed.

    So where now for Wayne?

There is something very very odd about this. Why no TV coverage in the first place?
Did TV channels have some kind of inside knowledge that this would happen or did Kiko not make the weight because without the TV money the purse on offer was not worthwhile?

Well, all the training he did for the fight plus the expense of flying over to Belfast, accommodation, etc. didn't come free.

By not fighting he doesn't get paid. Therefore he loses money.

Wayne made the weight without effort and Kiko was 2lb over on weigh in day, he was drinking water straight after weigh in because he was so dehydrated.

this tells you he was probably 8-10 lbs dehydrated which he would of gained back for the next night meaning that he would of been a powerful fella thats also 12lbs heavier than the official weigh in weight plus wayne was 3 lbs underweight, kiko would have had over a stone on wayne!

Thats bull**** and they planned on been massively heavier than wayne, if all things where even wayne would of beaten him no problem..
