While I don't support the views of the original post. I get really fed up with the above-style opinions. Something wrong is happening in Sudan, and not acknowledging this by pointing out a wrong that occurred elsewhere isn't helpful.

But the main fault with this type of arguement is this:
Yes the Spanish Inquisition was wrong. But didn't it happen hundreds of years ago? Didn't something change to make it go away? Why did these changes occur ? (because people changed their ways for the better).

On the other hand, these type of medieval views are still present in Sudan, right now - in the present tense - affecting living people.

Things like that unfortunately do give muslims generally a bit of a bad name but that really down to our own ignorance. I know a few muslims and all I can say is they're great people and its great fun to wave food at them during Ramadan. I think you'll find there's plenty of warped, wacky christians knocking about the place, although to don't appear inclined towards habituating public transport in explosive apparel.

Sudan however appears stuck in a monty python parody of the middle ages.

Well, without wishing to be associated with the extreme comment of the OP, the "Spanish inquistion" comment kind of validates the 'Backwards' culture part, dosen't it? Modern Sudan is right up to the times with dark ages Europe - Imprisoning, torturing or murdering those who's beliefs you find offensive.

People who treat others in this way and validate it culturally or politically do not deserve respect or to be treated as equals. You may argue that western society is not so civilised itself, but this type of culture and behaviour is the bottom of the barrel.

Any action they take that goes beyond a statement of official disapproval, is completely unnacceptable in any case like this, and only goes to prove how uncivilised nations and cultures like this really are.

It's not the muslim religion, it's the idiot fanatics who take it literally word for word. Even if it's contradictory they'd still follow it to the letter.

The Christian religion has the same people, just look at some of the nuts living in the southern states of the US.

the only reason they're not out stoning and killing 'non-believers' is because the governments controlling their countries are slightly more advanced than the governments in places like Iran and Sudan (hey! they rhyme!). It's the minority that gives places like this a bad name. Beleive me, if a religious fanatic got into power in the US the idiot Christian fanatics would be on the streets burning witches again.
