    Hi,
I am going to New York in the new year and want to buy a diamond ring. Is there a specific area I should look, or even better a specific shop?

I presume it would be cheaper to buy a ring over there rather than here.

I would be spending about €3,000

    Thanks

we found tiffanys very intimidating to be honest, partly because we didnt know our budget and moreso cos i didnt want my jaw to drop if they told me the rings we liked were 10k+ (no prices on the rings)
Zales stores had rings for well under your budget (prices shown).
a stroll tru the diamond district can be fairly blinding, however the guys working inside/on the doors look pretty dodgy so we didnt go in
in the end we decided to wait til we got home and get something in ireland

I got the fiance her ring in Tiffany's. Had pretty much the budget your looking at as well. It's true the rings have no prices on them but we just talked to an assistant who showed us various rings from 1K - 3K and let us choose which one we liked the best. Found it great.

It all depends on how much you know,if you are fairly knowledgeable about diamonds then the diamond district is the place, otherwise stick to your Macys or Tiffany's.
Macys have a visitors department that give you a 10% discount voucher on production of your passport. 10% off EVERYTHING.

Be very careful with a few of the "jewellers" around NY they will rob you as quick as look at you.
