monster waves predicted for west coast!

The rte news website warns of 14metre waves this weekend off the west coast if predicted conditions persist! What kind of conditions are those? While it looks a bit stormy it doesn't look like anything out of the ordinary. How will I fare on the south coast? any ideas?

Indeed.

A 950mb Low in the North Atlantic is slowly filling and moving towards the west coast. Strong winds are likely tomorrow with gusts towards 55mph as well as pounding waves in the west.

Sunday looks more noteworthy with a secondary LP racing across the country, gusts in this system could widely reach 65mph especially along southern and southeaster coasts.

I know a fantastic spot for watching the waves, slightly dodgy but that is the fun.

Its on the dingle peninsula, if you are going along PM me and Ill send you a map.

no better place than achill island for watching waves. ill be heading home tomorrow and ill be bringing the camera as well. should be interesting. look out some pictures Monday.

Not sure my camera is right for the job, high tide 8am, will be there with cocoa.

Yep Achill should be a great place so see some huge waves alright.
I think stormy pics of waves really convey mother natures power and ferocity , looking forward to the pics

Swell is predicted to be at its highest between 12pm and 6 pm (well if you are going to Inch, according to this), which is handy as at least we will get the chance to see in daylight.

Inch strand can be a good spot to see some big waves too, but there is some great spots on the Dingle peninsula, where there should be some impressive crashing of waves upon the rocks. Carrig being one of those areas as stated by ch750536 above, the road runs close to the coast there, and at one point along, there is a nice little slip located among the rocks, although it could get very dodgy standing there this weekend. Should be an impressive vista all the same.

ill be based in the south west corner of achill, on a wonderful stretch of road and coastline which gives some stunning weather. the road is known locally as the "Atlantic Drive".

3pm onwards looks like it the best time. 37ft waves every 10 secs jesus thats big.

could be more big waves on the way later on in the week as well.

Forecast downgraded to 10m for the coast.

Currently M3 bouy off SW coast is recording 10m

Hmm, banking on the best visible swell being tomorrow morning, seems I'm on a bit of a loser.

This place is a bit mad though, you get waves that just shouldn't be possible.

Any photography tips taken gladly btw.

was thinking of heading to strandhill in sligo to watch some of this, get a few pics, some video, but giving it could be so feirce, would need to find a safe spot, well away from it all

Will be driving down to Salthill myself later to witness these waves. There is no better place to be on a day like this.

Wind is already packing a punch here, and we are 20 miles inland.

Should be interesting.

That was eventful. Had to call 112 twice (poles fallen). Finally got there 8.40am, fantastic stuff.

Have not sorted or edited the pics yet but they can be found

Was suprised how well my €80 camera did. Light was very bad initially, improved loads but I had to go.

Left my phone in the car else you would have had sound too.

I was out for a wee while.
Not on the 40ft monsters, but was still pretty intense.
Huge swells, and more importantly powerful high period 13-17 second waves have been pumping solidly now for the last while and the next week too.
