Went back to what i like doing (and its not organising exhibitions !) .. out to Darndale , and a few might have expected I had this coming , had a bit of hassle, camera unharmed and myself , and every one was cool, except one ... still its a reminder ... anyway it will take more than one to stop me .. and i won't let one person tarnish my opinion of an area .. hope to go back sometime

to quote Capa again, "if your pictures arn't good eneogh , your not close eneogh"

Thats to be expected the odd time Barry.

Don't let it put you off in an way though and I'd guess your talking about this happening less than 1 % of the time. Ignore.

chatting to few local youngsers , hoods up etc .. all cordial eneough , when out of the blue this older fellow (hooded) appears with a sharp serious looking iron bar a foot from my face ... intimadaing and looking for camera , i called his bluff and coolly walked away ...

usually vioelence doesn't fright me much, been in many scrapes in my life , but there was a sense of isolation where i was , and a look of hatred in his eyes .... but as i said it was just one , and theres bad uns everywhere , from Blackrock to Clontarf.

Don't know how I would have reacted... depends on how confident you are to walk away I suppose.

Speaking of up close and personal, anyone see part 5 of Genius of Photography? A mixed bag of talents but the work of Richard Billingham and Sally Mann
really caught my eye. Larry Clarke on the other hand...meh.

    Mike.

Glad you're okay Baz. Luckily you didn't have to suffer for your art.

good instincts there. it usually better to walk away from those situations, they really are bargining on you just handing over the camera and then legging it. if you walk away calmly you might have back up somewhere.

Thanks Mike , i've had a few minor threats made through the year , but in general people are great -- all that rugby and soccer , toughens you up ;)

Been in the same situation over the last few years

    Smithfield once with fists.
City Center twice with threatened shotgun as I never saw it and real glass bottle bottle.
    Ballymun twice with knives.

glad to hear your ok and hope to see you tomorrow.

Dublin's a funny place and there are quite a few black spots but 9 out of 10 your safe enough once you keep your eyes open.

Well, well, well.....if it isn't Baz. So this is where you give all the good background info on your photos. Now, you'll be happy to know that I won't be bugging you with questions in the comment spaces on Flickr ( I feel so stupid for that.) I can just read it here! Again, I love your work! The Darndale ones are my new favorites. I'm sure I'll come home from work tomorrow and check your new ones and then they will be my new favorites. Love it, can't get enough of it, keep it coming. You have a true talent!!!!
