Not the one on your desktop :D

Tell others a bit about your background in the trade...

I've worked in ESB since 1994, and have recently moved back into Networks (the people who deal with electrical supply between the generating station and the isolator in your meter cabinet). Prior to that I worked in ESB Contracts, designing, constructing and maintaining street and amenity lighting systems.

Dealing with bigger wires and voltage is still something I'm getting to grips with once again, as I'm involved in activities now that I haven't had a hand in since my apprenticeship.

Luckily, I work with some very knowledgeable people :)

Took apart the usual items at home - mixers, hairdryers, radios...
Working in servers & storage sustaining engineering for an OEM presently.

Working on an RF controller for my central heating presently... Will post photos at some stage!

Time served electrician, I started my apprenticship in 1990. Most of my experience is industrial. Worked in Holland and Germany in the petro-chemical industry as electrician/foreman for a few years.

Worked as an instrumentation technician (maintenance, hated it!).

Got bored after years of sparking, so I quit! I am 1/2 way through a full time electrical engineering degree.

Qualified sparks since 1991. Worked through both construction in the early days and machine automation for last 10 years.

Sparking away self-employed now with 50% 'ish of time supporting small industry (food, joinery, printing) with electro-mech and control issues and 50% 'ish on domestic work. My domestic side includes carpentry and basic plumbing. Has a great turnover as it increases revenue hours per call.

Newly qualified sparks with a technicians cert in electrical services engineering and a couple of certs in PLC's. Working on cold noisy sites at the moment, eating dusty breakfast rolls in between running cables:D. Will be quitting sparking altogether next year though, fingers crossed.

Just got my papers yesterday coincidentally, from Eamon O Cuiv no less.
I'm sparking for five years and would be the first to admit there are gaps in my knowledge not that I blame the pathetic state of the Irish apprenticesip system. I've a good bit of experience with Commercial wiring, pubs and restaurants etc. I wouldn't mind getting a crack at the Industrial though.

Certificate in Construction Studies - 1991
Diploma in Construction Studies (Construction Economics) - 1993
Have worked as a consultant quantity surveyor and builder's estimator.

Hate consulting building services engineers with a vengence. Like electricians who talk straight and keep their paperwork in order.

Who did you work for in Holland?
They didn't by any chance sound like " bandridge"?
Takes balls to quit it all and do college full time, good luck

I know who you mean, no did not work for them. I wont say why or I might get banned!! Most people in the industry know the story!

I worked for another Dutch agency run by irish, they were good. Worked in the petor chemical industry only. They gave me a whole new perspective of what a large site is, I thought Tallagh hospital was a big job until then!

qualified as a electrician in 1998 worked on mainly industrial and comercial projects in the dublin area also during this time i have carried out domestic work on the side where i have gotten a lot of work through word of mouth
it has always been my ambition to do this full time but with the money that was being earned in my field i never did, i think this may change in the future as the economic conditions are changing plus after ten years plus on large noisy building sites a change would be good
