Hi Guys ... thought this might be of interest to posters here. The details of the Irish Skeptics Society's next public lecture are outlined below. All welcome. There's a nominal fee of €6 for non-members to defray costs. Hope to see you there.

    Understanding the Criminal Mind
The Davenport Hotel, Merrion Square, Dublin 2. Wednesday December 5th, 8.00pm.

This talk will be presented by Professor Harry Kennedy, Clinical Director and Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, National Forensic Mental Health Service, Central Mental Hospital, Dublin.

There is a popular perception that all crime can be explained by social factors or mental disorder, or both. Can crime be defined in some scientific way? Can the mind be known as a factual matter for the courts to judge? How much of what passes for liberal sentiment and scientific research can stand up to scrutiny? In a media world where psychiatry is interpreted by journalists and justice is fictionalised, one must be sceptical.
