hello! i have cod4 installed on my pc:

    acer aspire 5602
    intel core dua
    1gb ram
ati mobility radeon x1300 video carrd.

with multi player everything is ok. But i cant run single player. When i try to do it i get message:
"It appears that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare did not quit properly the last time it ran.
Do you want to run the game in safe mode?

when i press yes\no\cancel nothing happens at all!!! any advice...

I would also suggest doing a full re-install.

Could you please try this Rudzis2?

Open up your Activision folder located in C:\Program Files:

In the Activision folder, select Call of Duty 4
    Open your "Miles" Folder
    Look for the "Mssmp3.asi" file
    Rename it to "Mssmp3.bak"
Run CoD4 Single Player and see if it works

Oh and did you buy the game or are you using a crack?

If you bought the game we'll keep helping. If you are using a crack I will have to delete this thread (and perhaps ban you ;))!

I had the same problem. Tried everything but the game kept reporting no dvd in drive. I used a no-cd and its perfect, and yes I bought the game.

I feel your pain. I had this problem also only I could not launch mp but could play sp all the time. I searched alot of forums on this and it appears to be a fairly common problem for alot of people.

From what I have seen on the forums there are a few different possible reaosns and maybe even having tried all of this they may not work. Activision support site has a recommendation on this as per the below links.

    http://activision.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/activision.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php?p_sid=FvePYoQi&p_lva=19317&p_li=&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_page=1&p_cv=&p_pv=2.623&p_prods=1%2C623&p_cats=&p_hidden_prods=&prod_lvl1=1&prod_lvl2=623&p_search_text=&srch_btn_submit=%C2%A0%C2%A0%C2%A0Search%C2%A0%C2%A0%C2%A0&p_new_search=1&p_search_type=answers.search_nl

However some people who have tried the above suggestions still could not get it to work.

There are other suggestions about changing an .asi file in the Miles folder of COD4 to a .bat file. Works for some not for others.

Other suggestions were to change the sound card settings and revert them back to windows default settings. Effectively disable your current sound card (assuming its not an integrated sound card). Again solved some peoples issue but not all.

X-Fire was also mentioned however as previous poster suggested you dont have it installed on your PC.

Finally what worked for me is that I just re-installed the game. I know you have tried this but when I re-installed the game again I accepted the prompt to update Direct X and install Punkbuster (both of which I already had but I just decided to install them again via the wizard setup of COD4. I did not do either of these the first time.

Hope this helps but also google search the error messages you get when it fails to launch if all else fails.

Finally perhaps the Mod for COD4 here may help with other suggestions?

I had the same problem of having MP but not SP.

I updated my graphics card drivers, and then did a re-install. Works fine now.

Just to point out, the update to the drivers didn't work for the game, until I re-installed.

So if you haven't reinstalled since updating drivers, try it again.

Im having a problem with SP too, when the 2nd level is loading the bar goes a quarter of the way and then I get a "iw3sp.exe has stopped working" error :'(. Been in talks with Activision support for nearly 2 weeks and nothing.

The MP works fine apart from when a server cycles to the "Crossfire" map in which case the game freezes and I have to hit "Esc" and it goes to the desktop.

Ive done everything from disabling my sound to extracting every data file in the game with winrar to no avail. I havent tried reinstalling though as all the game files are not corrupted, if I do this will I lose my MP account? I really dont want to lose that as I have nearly everything done seeing as its all I can play.

    Thanks

Well it might be down to your rig to be honest. COD4 MP isnt as hungry as the SP so that could explain why you can run MP and not SP. Im presuming having everything at low it still wont open SP yeah?

i dont think its the rig, mines worse (shame), and i played it. Had the same problem but my one was a cracked one. Tried the cracked No-CD which didnt work, but then i just downloaded another one from gamecopyworld.com and no probs... except i finished the game the next day. Boo
