Alright folks. Hopefully some of you good knowledgeable people here can help me out. My sister has asked me about an acoustic guitar to get for her teenage daughter (my niece) for Christmas. She said she didn't want to spend a lot in case it was just a phase. She said about €100.

Now I don't know what kind of quality of guitar you'd get for that price but I'd imagine it would be fairly crap. I know how off putting playing a cheese grater or a guitar can be when you're learning. The thing is I don't know if there are any reasonably good cheap acoustics for sale these days. I have a Taylor and a Takamine so I tend not to look at the lower end of the scale when I'm looking about.

So, can anyone suggest a reasonably decent cheapish acoustic that would be good for a beginner. Doesn't have to be as cheap as €100 but not too expensive either.
    Cheers folks.

I think the best option would be a Yamaha F310. You'd pick it up in town for around 129 I think.
You could pick up an encore for around 89 or 99 euro but the difference in quality with the yamaha model I mentioned is worth ALOT more than the 30 or 40 euro difference. It's a great beginners guitar and would easily see someone through a couple of years of learning.

Yep, the Yamaha F310 is the stock answer for this type of question. I bought one for my son a while ago, and it's fine. Expect to pay about €130-€140 in a music shop, probably cheaper online.

Seems pretty conclusive then :D. I think somehting like that bundle would be idea FindingNemo. Maybe with a tuner thrown in as well and she'd be well on her way. I have let my sister know what the wise boardsies have willed and I think it could be a goer. Once again cheers lads.

Ah, sod the tuner, just put the house phone on speaker and that's your tuning for A (5th String)

    :-)

She's a teenager. She probably has crazy frog or some such twat as a ringtone so it wouldn't be much use. :D

Be careful who you buy with online - you won't have any come back with that crowd , they don't give any support, not even for the supplier warranty. They ignore your emails, phone calls and written communication.
The only way to get through to them is via small claims court.

I'm actually going out to buy a Yammie for my Wives, Best friend's husband on Wednesday. Yamaha guitars are exceptional value.
