    Yeah this has been covered here before. If your car (like most here) is mapped for 95RON you won't notice any difference. I certainly didn't in my Civic!

    I haven't heard how anyone with a Jap import mapped for 98 or 100 has got on yet though.

    Anyone with a turbo should see a difference unless the mapping is ultra conservative on their car. Check Vagdrivers.net.

    I used it in my Dc5 Integra, didnt notice any difference over Shell V-Power.. and i got about 50km's less out of a full tank of E5 then I would normally under the same conditions..

    Probably due to something like Ethanol having a lower energy potential than standard fuel, even though the octane rating is higher?

    Exactly the same. In fact in the stations selling E5 they don't have "regular" 95RON petrol on sale anymore!

    Ethanol burns hotter or whatever the right term is. Super cars get more BHP when run on bio-ethanol than petrol. However as it burns hotter, it does not last as long so you will not get as any miles as pure petrol. This will be more obvious with E85, though it balances as its cheaper.

    I read that the EU wants all petrol replaced with E10 by a certain date, idea being its better to have everyone using a little less petrol and more bio fuel (no conversion needed) than getting the few to go all biofuel.

    In my experience, the engine runs a bit smoother (JDM motor mapped for 98RON), but I get slightly less out out of a tank - E5 has a higher octane rating but a lower calorific value.

    High Octane fuels burn cooler, not hotter, in a controlled manner. Low octane fuels detonate/knock easier, especially under boost pressure (like a Turbo). You get slightly less MPG as the calorific value is lower.

    Indeed. Using E5 means roughly (when driving style / mix stays the same):

    *3% less CO2 produced
    *1.5% more fuel used
    *Improvement in performance depends on the car

    Well, at first glance it seems logical that it should burn hotter as heat = performance. I know people repairing engines for 30years that asked if high Octane fuel would "burn out" engines, Cats etc. :D

    Woah! This is great news!

    My car is mapped for 98 Ron. Maxol it is then.

    Pity I didn't hear about this earlier, as it's one of the reasons I switched to a diesel car (coming in Jan 08).

    It should be cheaper as the Bio part of it isnt taxed as much (or at all?), but its not.
