My Passport is due to expire next May, ill probably get a new one in January or February, ive heard that going to some places they insist that your passport be at least 6 months before the expiry date before you can gain entry, does anyone know of a case where this has been enforced?

I can't say i have but just in case i thought id check with someone, i really don't wanna have to get a Passport before Xmas, and ill hopefully be going to Dubai and London.

you will be ok for London - dont know about Dubai.

Its generally where countries require that you have a visa (for example Turkey, USA etc) your passport must be valid for the maximum period of the visa (generally 90 days if its a pay at airport visa) or sometimes a bit longer, even if you are only going for a weekend.

Totally depends on the country - Id contact the embassy of the country you're going to or look on the Internet.

I always get my passport 6 months or so before it expires to cover all eventualities.

Some countries do insist. Check local regulations.

If your going to America or Australia I strongly suggest you renew you passport now .... Christmas is just around the corner so it could even take longer the the usual few weeks.

Also a good thing to note is that is you booked a holiday and then realized that your passport was expired a week before ya leave (It does happen !!), you can go to the passport office with all the required info, photos etc... and you flight tickets showing that your flying soon the can do it that day ... there might be a fee though for that

    Anyway enjoy your travels :D

Get a new passport, I know someone who was refused entry to Dubai as her passport had less then six months left, its the same for the US but they let certain countries bypass this and Ireland is one of them but I still wouldn't risk it just in case.

This isnt correct, you need a passport valid for 6 months after your trip but British and Irish people dont need a visa anymore, the passport law still stands and you wont get in without it.

Thats what I said no? Of course you need a passport but if you hold an Irish passport then it doesn't need to be valid for six months after your trip.

    Gabriel,

you do need an Irish passpprt that is valid 6 months after your trip, what you dont need anymore is a visa. So no that is not what you said.

Ok you DON'T need an Irish passport valid for six months after the journey, I am certain of this, go to the Irish US Embassy website and check that, plus I just returned from the US on Wednesday and mine wasn't valid for six months after my journey, the only thing I'd say is if you have the time get it anyway cause I was still a bit worried going through immigration....

Im talking about Dubai here not the US, in the US you dont need to be valid as far as i know but in Dubai you do.

Yes for Dubai you do need a passport valid for six months after your journey like I said above, but not for the US as I also said above.
