    Hi ,
I have a Toshiba satellite-(P4-3ghz / 521ram/80gb) with Wxp-so the problem is recently its getting overheated and shuts down....Its boots and runs only for like 5-10 min and then goes down...I put it on the windowsill and managed to run recovery tool . So I'm looking for some repair shop in Cork .

    Any recommendations?

I had the exact same problem on the exact same laptop. The cause of the problem is more than likely overheating caused by dust build up inside your laptop especially around the CPU and the CPU fan and exhaust. Before you take it to the repair shop, get a can of compressed air, open the panel on the underside of the laptop where the fan exhaust is with a torx screwdriver and blast all the dust that you can see clogging up the heatsink and the fan exhaust with the compressed air. You will be amazed at the amount of dust that can gather in there over time, I know I was. Hopefully this will solve your problem and you wont have to shell out to any of the computer stores in the city for a repair that you can do yourself.

If needs be you may have to clean the whole heatsink, like I had to, Its not a hard job and can be easily done in about 30 mins. Heres a guide if you need it Tosh Dust Cleaning

I did something like this not too long ago too, the best thing you can do is once you remove the heatsink, reapply some fresh thermal grease to it as the original compund will problably have dried up and is offering no heat transfer. Buy some Artic Silver thermal grease in somewhere like Maplin, and reapply a *small* dab of it on the heatsink and spread it around using a small plastic bag stretch over your index finger.
This should remedy the heating issues along with the compressed air blast.

The Cork Computer Clinic across the way from the Lee Fiat Garage in South Terrace have been great in my dealing with them, and have been cheaper that other places generally aswell. They charge a flat €30 fee when you drop in the computer and depending on the cost of the parts/work etc they will pay you back the left over sum or you pay more etc. Sometimes they can be a bit slow to let you know of the comps situation and some front desk staff are less than friendly but the work and price is top notch imo. I've had laptop keys replaced, new hard drive fitted, change of PSU in old desktop and fan replacement. Link. There's a place out in the old Douglas village area aswell that do repairs, I *think* it's called the Computer Clinic, not too sure though.

Follow the pictures on the left hand side for a step by step guide to removing the heatsink.
Reverse the steps to put it back together once you have applied new thermal paste.
    Fin.

I wouldn't feel too sad about paying €110, theres a good analogy in another post about a jeweller charging €75 for two minutes to look at a diamond, to which he replies "But it took me 15 years to leanr that skill" so at least he passed on a bit of wisdom too you which may help you again in the future, at least you'll have the confidence now to open 'er up and have a poke around if something goes wrong.
