    How old is she?

At a younger age, i'd recommend a shuffle (small and simple to use).

Shes 8, I know shes young, but I'm thinking her Mammy may get a go of it when she gets bored, and shes a whizz on the computer.

I think the shuffle maybe a bit too small for her?!?

I'd suggest the shuffle also. As basq says, easy to use. As for the size, don't worry, you will be surprised how destrous kids are with small gadgets. My twins nieces were promised "iPods" when their baby sister arrived last year. They are also 5 but begged and begged the unborn baby to bring iPods with it. My sister picked up two cheap iPod imitations, the size of the shuffle and they are well able to manage them. They only cost a couple of quid and they are still working perfectly. The kids think they are iPods and are happy out!

Tbh, no way would I spend big money on a gadget for an 8 year old. I'd suggest the shuffle but I think even that is too much, IMHO. At 8 though, you might not be able to trick her ;)

Right so, I suppose it makes the most financial sense as well.

    Thanks for the help!!!

My friend is getting his daughter(5) an iPod Nano for Xmass... I asked why he wouldnt get her a shuffle, he said it was too cheap... He's one of these, "must have the best" loons. I wouldn't mind but he's 2 ipods that havent been open, he has them hidden so his missus doesnt find out. I think all toghether he has 5 ipods, he only uses his nano tho... More money than sense... Oh, and he's getting a Touch to add to his collection....

TBH I'd recommend a Creative Zen Stone over an iPod shuffle:
    • Cheaper
    • Looks just as good (IMHO)
    • Drag-and-drop data transfer (kids know how this works, I'm sure)
    • Con: doesn't accept iTunes' default AAC, but does accept MP3 & WMA
Whatever you buy -- get the kid some decent headphones!

    :eek::eek: You promised you'd never tell about those . . . ooh er . . you're no talking about me at all . . . are you ?!!:D;)

I sympathise with the lad, I'm the same myself. Wimin don't understand what a gadget fetish is like to live with . . present company excluded of course (440) ;)

If I know 8 year olds - and I do, believe me I do! - What ever you buy will get plenty of "dragging" (by the headphone cable) and "dropping" (with alarming regularity) on to the floor or into the toilet !

    ZEN

I say Nano or Shuffle, both are piss easy to use, Nano is better because you can see what your doing and it only costs 140e odd

i'd go with the nano too, knowing kids - if my two nephews are anything to go by - they'd probably eat a shuffle.

I got her the shuffle the red one with her name engraved.

She is delighted with it. It is simple for her to use.

    Thanks for the suggestions lads!!!

I have to say, it is tempting.

Zen stone might be the best for ease of use (drag & drop). Unless the kid can use iTunes.
