    Hi All,

Can anyone give me a little help with setting up a dell HP
I have tried a few methods (SKY SCART > Yellow Cable) (DVD Player > YEL Cable)

I would like to hook it up to my sky box so i can watch Sky but none of the connections seem to work and the projector will not pick up the signal from DVD/SKY BOX.

Can anyone help - I have included a diagram for the config at back.

thats all you should need, the scart to the yellow cable (composite)

then select that input on the projector and you should be sorted

    Hi Moe,

Tried it, i tested a PS2 on a composite cable to troubleshoot the projector and it picks this one up fine, but if I output the DVD/SKY with scart to composite it doesn't pick up the signal.

Just wondering if theres something im doing wrong?

unless the scart to composite is a switchable one... and the switch is in the wrong position??

everything else you're doing sounds bang on.

I'll have another look, i did try two different leads and the same result - no visual. Would there be any reason that the projector wouldn't pick up the picture type.

Im new to the whole projector thing so you'll have to excuse my naievity.

scart connector can have either a composite video output or composite video input, sometimes the scart will have both input/output wires or sometimes a input/output switch, or sometime is only input or output. So maybe make sure the scart is set for output. Also you should be able to get scart to s-video(usually composite over svideo) which you could use to connect the two if you can't get the composite to work

also might be worth looking through the menus of each device to see if any settings might be stopping it working.

Thanks Moe - I'll give it a shot

    Hi Irish.

Might have a solution to your problem. Had a similar problem myself.

Check the setting on your Sky Box. You might need to change the following settings:

Services/System Setup/Picture Settings/ and set the Video Output to RGB.

This might help. I personally use a VGA Cable with a VGA-Scart adapter which came with my projector. But needed to change these setting to get the picture up?

    HTH.

    Heya,

Changed to SKY BOX from PAL to RGB and then tried both scart>composite into PJ - Didn't work.

Then tried to scart>s-video into PJ - No Joy!
PJ doesn't seem to want to pick up the signal.

I was half thinking of getting a scart>vga cable or adaptor but do you think this would work and would I experience any deterioration in the quality of picture displayed.

    Many Thanks,

the scart should be set to pal i think

wouldn't recommend a scart vga adapter as the quality will be degraded

does the sky box have any other video output than scart?

also have you gone through the projector menu, if theres sync threashold adjustment set it low, make sure all inputs are enabled and cycle(switch between) through each input slowly to see if it pick up anything

composite is the simplest connection, really surprised if it doesn't work

have you tryed both the projector with a different source and the skybox with a different display device to make sure both are working with different devices and the cable is okay

Don't think you wil loose any quality.

Does your projector have a VGA port. I can only see a DVI form the image.

If not make sure you get a DVI-VGA cable (fairly standard now) and then connect the VGA side to the Scart Adapter as seen below.

You want the Video output setting on your Sky box NOT to be RGB. Otherwise your just attempting to send component video down one composite cable which isnt going to happen. It should be composite. I think the sky box calls it SDTV but can't remember. Also make sure you use the correct scart connection on the Sky Box. There are two.

I am assuming your using a SCART to tails which has up to 6 phono cables on opposite end (Video In, Audio In L & R, Video Out, Audio Out L& R).
If so, are these labeled? Or what exactly is the cable you are using?

By the way that projector doesn't appear to have a VGA in. Looks like DVI only to me.

I'll give the VGA/SCART Adaptor a shot and see how I get on, I have a DVI>VGA Cable

    Thanks again,

    I'd disagree eolhc,

Using my 480p HT Projector connected to my skybox through a VGA-Scart connection gives a good picture. Better than using the composite connection.

Although, as you said, this could still be a projector input source issue. If the projector input source is locked on the (E.g. DVI source) instead of the composite it will need to be manually changed.

Read our responses, its no use to you dude.

BTW, have you only tried the one SCART to tails? If so then I'd bet on it simply being a dodgy cable.

    As above,

Im using my PJ connected to my Skybox using a Scart-VGA adapter...

    Works perfect.

And as above, he ain't got a VGA in on that projector.
    Will need a another adaptor.

I'd say he's better off figuring out the most probably simple reason why his composite connection isn't working before heading down this avenue.

For the best picture quality from your sky box, you'll need an RGB SCART to M1DA cable or adaptor. This will give you Component quality video.

    I have a DVI>VGA Cable

And using a VGA - Scart adapter which comes as standard with alot of modern PJ's.

i was thinking more of an interlaced signal, i can see why if the connection is using the progressive component output it would be fine. Would the pal output (576i) through the converter from the sky box give you a picture?
