Hi My friend recently bought a 1971 MGB GT and the Webasto Roof needs some repair. There is a spare roof for sale on eBay but we've no idea how to refit it. Anyone know of a good website where we could get some assistance - nothing in the Haynes manual or anyone got diagrams to show the correct workings of the roof

I used to have a BGT and the webasto sunroof got vandalised, i sent it to England to have it recovered, think it was a couple of hundred quid, then re-fitted it myself, don't think there was much to it, just slide it into the rails and screw it in at the back and waterproof around the screws and back edge with some silicon or something.

Have you tried taking yours off ? Check having your current frame recovered and might be a better option, mine was like new and water tight. Can't remember who i sent it to though but i'm sure you can easily find someone to do it.

Webasto roof still leaking tried to tension up cables put can not see any tightening nuts. Has any one got any manual diagrams I could look at?.I have taken off the side runners and had a good look at the end piece that is attached to the roof but can not see away to release it from the roof to see if there is locking /tightening nuts for cable. I have tightened the cable up using a metal cable tie but now it looks that the front lock is pulling the female locking unit out of the wood. not having much luck. Any help would be great.
    Thanks Brono

I've been researching this topic for my 1961 Rover P4 80.

Webasto repairs are no longer done by Webasto. If you use this link

    http://www.tudorwebasto.co.uk/

    you'll get to

    R & S Coachbuilts
    123A Old Dover Road
    Blackheath
    London
    SE3 8SY

    their e-mail is

    rscoachbuilts@btconnect.com

I found a detailed but complicated description of a D-I-Y repair here:-

    http://www.mbzponton.org/valueadded/maintenance/webasto/webasto.htm#ftn1

It has a diagram of a 1959 webasto roof - but the guy was also doing the headlining at the same time on his Mercedes Ponton.

RS tell me to remove the sliding part of the roof (they say its quite easy), send it to them for recovering and then refit. I have to go back to them to get details from one of their fitters over the phone. They do also offer a fitting service over here in GB.

I replaced the webasto on my scimitar, pulled out the old one. Removal is easy enough nuts and bolts stuff. Bought a new one from the guy in robertstown and fitted it. Saved myself hundreds over getting R+S to do it.
I have a large sheet of webasto vinyl (black) and also a webasto wind deflector for sale if anyone is looking for one.
