You can probably buy one outright for less than the installation and monthly fee for a year.

I got installed about a month ago and I feckin' love it.

Of course you can buy a hard-drive recorder, but you miss out on the simplicity of the weekly guide. With the NTL thingy you can flick through a week's programing clicking "record" on everything you want recorded. Also you don't get the hassle of having to tune the bastard thing into your NTL box. (With my VCR I never got it set up right - I had to watch the program I was recording ). Playback is easy - all your stuff just appears in a menu.

I rang and they gave me the following Saturday for an install. Guy was gone by 9:40am.

Only gripe - the full guide is really slow to come up. The mini guide is fine though it only shows the current and next program.
